Comments Thread For: Ward: Khan is A lot Bigger Than People Realize, He Can Beat Canelo

Light heavyweight contender Andre Ward (29-0, 15KOs) has a lot of respect for Amir Khan's decision to face WBC middleweight champion Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (46-1-1, 32KOs) on May 7th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

I think Canelo wins, but I would enjoy it sooo much if Khan won. COME ON, KHAN, EXPOSE THAT HYPEJOB! SEND HIM BACK TO DE LA HOYA'S LAP!

The more I see of Canelo, the less confidence I have in him. He's good in a phonebooth fight ala against Kirkland. Strong as a bull. But obviously Khan isn't that guy.

If Khan can keep strong, I think he'll win. Possibly even make Canelo look ****** at times. Canelo will have his moments, but Khan will move and poke.

To paraphrase, the bigger he is, the harder he'll fall.

Khan was 22 when he got KO'd by Prescott at lightweight but that's less relevant than Canelo(when he was also younger/less developed) getting rocked hard by Cotto's very mediocre brother Jose (for the NABF Welter title), who has much less talent and power than Prescott. What concerns me is that Canelo is still maturing/getting bigger and that he will come into this fight or another fight in the near future too dehydrated and get KO'd in an upset vs a fighter who wouldn't have a chance otherwise. Canelo will have an even better chin at 160 and he'll also be faster, stronger and have more stamina. He needs to move up but only when the time is right.

Size won't be a factor in this fight. Its being made a big deal of mostly by GGG fanb1tches that wanna make Canelo out to be a natural middleweight. And since Khan came up from jr welterweight. But the fact is, this is a natural jr middleweight fighting a natural welterweight. Canelo is listed a 1/2" taller. But in all the face-to-face photos I've seen, Khan shoulders appear to be a lil above Ginger's.

And more importantly than all of that, Canelo doesn't fight like a big guy. He's a boxer/puncher. He's not a mauler. And he's not gonna be in Khan's grill all night. The fight will mostly be fought at a distance. And honestly, if Khan wasn't so chinny, I'd be very tempted to pick him to win. Because his speed is gonna give Nelo problems, especially early.

I agree that he's bigger than people think, not sure about the having a chance bit.
