He has done more here in the states, and look at his fighters, mostly Mexicans and just 1 Puerto Rican.


And they dont hate him because of that, they have hated him way before that, one of them is cause the way he acts. They prefer the Vargas style

Some Monzon fans will get on my face for this, but each time I eagerly anticipate a Mayorga fight, I remember Carlos Monzon. Of course there's a whale of a difference between the two: Mayorga has suffered two stoppages, Monzon never (though he got KD'd in his last fight but went on to win, anyway and was decked 3 times by a fighter named Felipe Cambeiro before losing by UD early in his career); Monzon is a Hall of Famer, Ricardo still has too many punches to do on his ticket to Canastota, he may never get there....etc., etc., etc.

It's the similarities in the lifestyle of the two that makes me remember Carlos, who used to smoke a hundred sticks a day when not training (reduced to 50 sticks when training), was a directory for bars and kept an exercise regimen of offering his body to every woman that caught his fancy. Harry Greb and Stanley Ketchel are reportedly two others who belong to the same club as Mayorga and Monzon.

I have always found characters like Monzon, Ketchel and Greb fascinating; I find Ricardo that too. Even more so. His reported work for the poor in his village in Nicaragua makes him a more compelling personality in my eyes.

Yeah Oscar isnt macho enough in true mexicans eyes, and that he has been given more than he earned

he has done more here in the US, but they hate him for the same reason they hate all other American Mexicans, because he was born here in the states
