Ward won't punish KOv, there won't be any time to do it because he will stop Kov in the first round.

    Ward = GOAT.

I think Kov is a wee bit less skilled than Ward! However he IS very skilled! I see him and say "This is a GREAT fighter, and boxer, technique-wise" But with Ward, I say "This is a SPECIAL fighter"

Ward being the better fighter, while Kov compensates by hitting hard as nails and being taller!

But Ward capitalizes on EVERY mistake! If you throw a punch, you get countered! If you sit and wait, you get attacked! If your gloves are too high, you get punched in the body! If your gloves are too low, you get hit up top!

      For every mistake, he capitalizes!

And I am kind of getting the feeling that Ward doesnt look at Kov the way others do! Ward kind of looks at him like a tool that he can use to make himself look good! He looks at Kov like "Man if I beat him up really bad, it will make me look very good"

Almost like a stepping stone, that he can stand on top off and be praised for!

Ward can be very dirty, ugly, mean, and aggressive! I think he's going to get a little dirty, elbows, frustrating clinches, lowblows, headbutts, and his greatest weapon; His skillset! Kov is so used to being this dangerous man! Ward is going to rough him up something nasty I think!

I dont know how Kov can deal with being on the other end of a violent-type fight! Like what if someone is coming to him in spots, and he cant land on this person. This person is aggressive, hard to hit, and roughing him up, frustrating him in different ways! How will Kov deal with being the one thats on the other end of the aggression he normally puts out onto others?

Ward got hit by a headbutt and cut open! I dont think Ward expected that! I think he just wanted to go in their and be the best Ward! A smart dirty fighter, rarely gets cut by headbutts! You lean your head down when you go in, and you lean your head back when they do it to you! I think rough, nasty tactics will be apart of his gameplan for Kov, and he will come out with maybe some bruising from Punches, but no cuts from headbutts!

I honestly think that the fight may consist of Kov trying to get one good solid power punch on Ward, while taking a violent Vintage-Ward whipping in the process!

As I said prior, Kov couldnt hurt Popkins, and Ward is the best of the best. Tough as nails! Ward is going to basically try to batter him, and Kov has to withstand allot of punishment, while hoping he can land some shots here and their like Barrerra did! Like Ward is going to be mean to this man, and any time Kov sits back too long, Ward is going to spoil in a mean way.

Those small veteran tactics will separate them when it counts the most!

But Ward will be better by the time they fight! And Kov gets hit all the time! With all this said, Im still not going to give a flatout prediction until Ward and Kov's next fight!

Boxing taught us that the boxer always beat the puncher.
So I would be tempted to bet on Ward.

That being said, Kovalev is a hell of a beast.
He counterpunched BHOP wich is in terms of skills and timing is pretty much impressive.
And the grandpa has never been koed.

Ward never saw a fighter like Kovalev.
I mean, Kovalev is not a fighter like Froch or Kessler.
He's a much more dangerous and bigger foe.
The way he destroyed Pascal twice and Cleverly (who is a good fighter IMO) was just ridiculous.

It's not an obvious pick like May vs Pac
Mayweather was the boxer but also the bigger man.

Kov besides his skills is an iron made dude walking around +200 pounds.

      I can't count Kovalev out.

Your right on allot of things! But Even though Popkins never been KO'd, for Kov to have that Mysterious "GGG" type of mystique about his power, I expected him to graze Hopkins, and have him on the canvas shaking like he's having a seizure! Specially due to his age!

However, like you I dont have all my chips on one fighter! Im about 60/40 in favor of Ward, and I need to see both of their next fights for me to decide!

Kov and GGG aren't one punch KO artist like a Trinidad was as a welterweight, Nasim Hamed or a Young Tyson.

Kov has accumulative KO power, he's more of a destroyer altough he can hurt any fighter with a single punch.

I would say quite the same for Golovkin.

Golovkin in my opinion is a good boxer.
I watched his fight against Dirrell, close fight.
But pretty impressive outbox a rangy fighter like Dirrell in an amateur fight.
I just think Golovkin will have great success at 160 but has a too small frame to go up a lot in weight.
Probably OK as a 168 pounders but def not made for 175.

Kov vs Ward is a close fight which either man can win on the right night but I would lean towards the overall skill, experience and mental toughness of Ward. There's a lot about Ward that reminds me of Mayweather and they have a way of breaking their opponents down.

Kov is big and strong with a high pressure style but I wouldn't rate him as having elite level boxing skills. Ward has the skills to mention him in the same sentence as any of the great pound for pound fighters from the last 20 or 30 years.

that was about the dumbest crap I ever heard. Kovalev dont give a ***** about Hopkins. No matter how hard you hit, you wont ko everyone....Kovalev is a very good fighter but he isnt the new Lama of boxing..."piece and blessings my friends"...nor is he a one punch ko artist....Bob Foster he is not....he breaks you down with sharp shots

He couldnt kayo a grizzled vet and was smart enough not to blow his load..nothing more or less

Welcome aboard, OP. Nice to see a boxing thread on here.

Enjoying Redd Foxx's posts as well. Kovalev is very deceptive so I'm not ready to count him out yet. Plus, I think Ward needs at least one more tune-up. What cannot be overlooked, however, is Dre's brain. I have no doubt he has the right gameplan and, if he's on, will outbox Sergey from the outside and rough him up in close quarters.

I'll put up 5 Quad that says you are wrong. Kovalev will mes Ward's entire game up with his jab, no opponent he has ever fought had a decent jab besides Kessler and he cheated his ass off to win that fight. Kovalev will jab him to the body and break him down. If he gets close Kovalev is going to rabbit punch the crap out of him until he is too scared to close the distance, forced to fight from afar. Then his jab to the head will punish Ward until his nose is a bloody mess, broken to bits. When he can no longer breath out of it, Ward will have no choice but to go out on his shield and go out he will. Enjoy Ward's evasion of the fight while it lasts, eventually HBO will be forced to force him to face the Killa.
