Boxing talent and the willingness to prove it against elite fighters

In a boxing gym you have people who look special against others they spar against. Then you match them up against soft touches and they look special, but then you put them in against another fighter who is suppose to be special and then you get to witness greatness....

That is how fighters are suppose to prove themselves. We never truly know how special a fighter is until they go against another specially gifted fighter. I hear a lot about the "eye" test..but that test is flawed and has been for decades..we have seen several fighters hyped as the next big thing only to crumble against another special fighter.

But the sad thing is the fighters who actually pass all the tests are always the ones criticized and questioned, while the ones who have not even passed one test are praised and hyped....Beating club level is the 1st step then you go to washed up use to be good fighters then you have to beat the contenders, then the world champions....

THEN YOU HAVE TO FACE THE BEST OF THE BEST!!!! Not to many fighters ever make it to this level and thats when we get to see the true Hall of famers and ALL TIME GREATS IN THIS SPORT... there are no shortcuts and no easy roads...THIS IS BOXING

AT what point do posters get the message-boxing has become risk averse because there is a belief that stars, and not competition (or competitive matches) sell fights. Fans today just want to see their favorite athlete/team win as opposed to compete. Boxing is adapting to this sad reality.

Almost every fight is a "showcase" fight designed to make the "A side" look great. Journeymen and opponents get more TV exposure and high profile fights than young stars or tough vets. Its better to be Gabe Rosado then Rigo.
