Before the inevitable "Golovkin dropped Kovalev doe" posts, just remember that Gennady/Abel have different philosophies than Kovalev, in that Golovkin goes hard in training whereas Kovalev doesn't and says why should we beat each other up if we're not getting paid? So while yes, Golovkin dropped him keep in mind Golovkin was going at him hard and Kovalev was holding back (they are friends after all and Kovalev wasn't going to get into a war just for sparring purposes).

Abel Sanchez in the past has revealed stories of Golovkin’s sparring sessions with well-known top class fighters. One of the most famous incidents dealt with Sergey Kovalev. Sanchez described the encounter to Hustleboss.com as a mismatch. He stated, “He [Kovalev] was one of the sparring partners that we had. He was with me for about a year and a half.
