  • Comments Thread For: Andre Ward: Fighting Kovalev is Not Going To Be a Problem

About the only thing to go wrong for the Oakland fighter came late in the eighth when referee Raul Caiz deducted a point from Ward for a low blow that sent Barrera (17-1) down to one knee. Ward also drew a warning in the 10th for an accidental head butt.

If anybody can beat Kovalev, it is Ward. I think he needs to stay busy until the fight tho.

The low blow was something that went wrong for Barerra as he was hit by it.
Also the ref didnt ward Ward for the butt, he looked at him and called it as cut caused by a butt. The ref was fair.

Trump texted me. He said Ward beats Kova easily.

Hopefully 2 more fights against top light heavies before Kovalev get last of rust off and practice and refine strategy only fair after long layoff getting like old Ward each fight

Jab is a laser, left hook stronger than ever, inside game busts you up, feints there ,spacing there landing of right and blocking of incoming right has to improve for Kovalev or could be trouble

He hardly did shyt with the right and I wonder if something was up. I saw so many opportunities for him to lead w/ the right, body w/ the right, etc. Just jab, jab, tap with the right, and left hooks. Maybe it was the shoulder. He's too smart to let anyone know if it was though.

I'd say the main area of improvement needs to be minimizing jabs taken. He's always had a habit of eating jabs while thinking or setting up shots. Kovalev's jab is strong, swift, and rangey so Ward can't let that happen.

If anyone can live with Ward, it could be Kovalev.

The power will always be a factor, Kovalev is very heavy-handed, but not sure if that will be enough.

But yea you're right, Ward needs to get 1 or 2 fights in before Kovalev if possible.

                    Yup ^^

Hey, did you notice..... it is strangely quiet for a Ward thread, did the Golovkin fans take a day off?

Did **** just get real, and a lot of boxingscene regulars suddenly realize that Ward can live with Kovalev ?
