It is true. With the same performance vs LSC, Lomo etc, the guy would be overwhelmed by mid rounds tops. He's on the road to being a top fighter, but he certainly isn't there yet. Velez made him work, which is good, but Diaz made many mistakes last night. Plus he doesn't have the power to keep the top guys off him. He's at a crossroads and needs to step his game way up if he wants the top honors. Newsflash: Don't believe HBO or Showtime commentary. That's designed to build interest in what they're investing in.
I have been watching boxing for 20+ years, I don't need HBO or Showtime to know if a guy boxed well or not. You guys realized he was still a prospect until last night, right? Nobody was talking about him fighting Lomo until last night. The fact that we are even mentioning that fight today is because Diaz looked good. He won at least 80% of the rounds in a fight that was supposed to be 50/50. Let him get a couple of fights with top contenders before we can even talk about a fight with Lomo.

He's good, just isn't some rising star... for the same reasons I said initially. He may get to the top, who knows. I'm not anointing him king yet. You should work on reading comprehension.

First you said "he was mediocre" now you are saying "he is good..." but I am the one who should work on my reading comprehension? Lol

Listen I am too old to call people names or get into the pity stuff.

NOBODY is calling Diaz a star yet. IMO He is very good prospect who performed well against a legit opponent but needs a few more fights before he can compete for a belt.

Btw I was watching the fight with a former professional boxer who agreed with me (and most people) about Diaz's performance last night.

Except, yeah, many are calling him a rising star. Good, decent, OK, whatever. Point being he isn't going in there with the big guns this year or next year. Which we pretty much agree on. So, unless you just luv to argue, this should be about time for us to clock out on this discussion, don't you think?

Mediocre? He came into a fight that everyone had as a even match up against a tough Velez and ended up DOMINATING the fight winning virtually every round. This was a big step up for him against a guy who has more experience and gave Gradovich and Rios fits. I say he passed his first big test with flying colors. Only thing he didn't do was knock Velez out but hey that kid is tough and nobody else has been able to knock him out either.

You say JoJo got hit to much? He was facing a good fighter not a bum and still here were the landed punch stats for the fight (245 to 161) in favor of Diaz. Here is what Gradovich did against this same Velez (310-to-278). Damn good when you look at what other top fighters have done against Velez especially when you realize that Velez actually threw like 30 more punches overall and Diaz still out landed him by damn near 100 punches. Jojo just turned 23 and looked better against Velez then either Gradovich or Rios did that is impressive and far from mediocre IMO.

What was mediocre (if anything) is his defense, but he pasted s guy who has given another top fighters in the division a tough fight. He 12-0'd him, that else can you do?
