Roger Mayweather was a good pro/great trainer, does he make the HOF like Mancini

My feelings on the topic may rob some the wrong way but I DONT CARE....There have been some pretty crappy inductions into the hall of fame in recent memory

Arturo Gatti, Barry McGuigan and Ray Mancini.....all exciting fighters but didnt accomplish what others did in their own eras or transcend the sport.

Maybe they were inducted because of cultural relevance, exciting fights and popularity

During the same era as Manicini and McGuigan, Roger Mayweather fought memorable fights...won some and lost some against the best of his time but always held his own and was exciting. Won the wba title @ 130 as an upstart and 140 wbc as a seasoned veteran

He wasnt an all time great but he was in memorable fights and he did accomplish more than those guys in the ring and outside as a trainer

He also is/was a great trainer who has trained many world champions in their careers, even trains kids and amatuers, and at one time trained the best male and female boxer at the same time....Laila Ali and his nephew, one floyd mayweather

He never won many accolades as a trainer or boxer

do you guys think he will be immortalized in the hall of fame for his contributions to the sport...he definitely loves it

Nah...I mean what legendary champs did he train? I wonder if the BWAA or HBO's grudge against the family name would ever have something to do with it... meanwhile Abel Sanchez goes into the HOF this fall...

if he didnt as a fighter, its understandable....if he isnt in though, Mancini shouldnt be....Roger accomplished more and beat better fighters than he did...also mcguigan

Roger Mayweather did train the best fighter of our generation the majority of his career and Laila ali...he definitely inspires me working with kids and amatuers still and he has trained a lot of pros

I dont know how he didnt get trainer of the year when he had floyd....they had some great years together....not by the ring or bwaa

maybe they do hold some type of grudge....who knows

If he doesnt get in, he should at least be on the ballot for trainer or contributor

wasnt he like 21-23 when he won his first title....he has a great mix of success as a fighter and trainer

his career reminds me of Jack Blackburn who trained joe louis....good fighter....great trainer but flew under the radar in his pupils shadow

not to many world champion fighters have trained or led fighters to titles....thats a significant accomplishment...I'd vote roger in

alot of people forget he had Ali and floyd at the same time....he shouldve got a trainer of the year during the tenure he had them both

we need a BFAA (Boxing's Fighters Association of America) where only fighters can vote. Kind of like when Joe Pesci in ''Easy Money'' he and Rodney Dangerfield walk into a cheesy tennis wear 'Men's Store,' and he asks, ''Yo, do you have any mens shirts for men!?''

I think fighters, trainers, fans should vote the fighters in the hall....not biased journalists and media personalities

we know more about the fighters and their careers and actually watch the fights

He trained the 2nd best fighter of an era but I'm not sure he trained anyone else worth a damn. Also you can't combine his training career and his fighting career to establish a HOF career, they're seperate accomplish.

As for him being in the HOF, I would say if Mancini, Gatti, and Mcguigan are in than so should Roger. I still don't understand how Mcguigan got in. He was a flash in the pan fighter who retired soon after reaching the top and losing to a set up opponent.

I think it comes down to Roger's popularity as a fighter and the fact most remember him as the guy Chavez destroyed twice to win titles in 2 seperate divisions. It's not really fair but it is what it is.
