Comments Thread For: Photos: Juan Diaz, Mike Alvarado Return To Get KO Wins

32-year old former lightweight titlist Juan Diaz (41-4, 20 KO) returned successfully to the ring Saturday night at the Arena Theatre in his hometown of Houston, Texas, with a ninth-round stoppage of 29-year old Fernando Garcia (30-8-2, 18 KO). Diaz, 136 , won almost every round but took a lot of punches and was forced to work against a Garcia, 136 , of Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico, who didn't just come to pick up a check.

Diaz and Alvarado will get badly heard the moment either steps in the ring with a boxer that has a modicum of talent.

If Alvarado stays clean and stays busy he can be a serious contender at 147.

Back in the day Diaz was a really good fighter. Didn't he always say when he got his law degree he was going to quit boxing and become a lawyer? I guess he's another guy who just can't give up the sport.

Alvarado looks more muscular and ripped than I've ever seen him. He was never a great fighter but he was fun to watch. These guys can be stepping stones for other upcoming fighters but it's not likely that either will be at the top of the sport again.

I remember Brandon Rios and Juan Diaz exchanging a few words on Twitter back when Rios was champ; I'd be very interested in that fight.
