Comments Thread For: Juan Diaz Will Assess Future Path With Upcoming Performance

It's been well over a year since we've seen Juan Diaz (40-4, 19KOs) in the ring. After his victory over Carlos Cardenas in September of 2014, he underwent surgery on his left shoulder that kept him out all of 2015. He returns this Saturday night at the Arena Theater in Houston, Texas versus Fernando Garcia as the headline performer on 'Solo Boxeo' (UniMas).

I wonder why Diaz never fought at 130. He is in his 30s now and still fighting at the same weight class (LW) he was in his prime. Anyways, props to Diaz, he didnt come into boxing beating a no hoper and demanding a title shot right after, hes earning his spot again and assessing his health which is smart. Even if he chooses not to fight on the big stage anymore, I dont see a problem with a guy wanting to still compete, hes a fighter and thats what fighters do.

It's always a bummer to see young fighters waste away some of their prime years under so-called "retirement", just to make a comeback and lose to guys they would have once demolished.
