Fo that matta how does a guy like de la hoya who's the last fights were gettin gift at 160lbs and gettin KOed at 160lbs by Hopkins, get a shot? How he get a title shot at 154lbs aftawards? LMAO! I think all them belt org are ****ed up. No way in hell de la hoya deserves a title shot in 154lbs after 2 fights at 160lbs where he both lost (Sturm was robbed). Shyyyt, and Mayorga is champ how again?......

All the Alphabet belts are corrupt...only the Ring belt has the integrity.

MannyP I don't think you understand that the champion has mandatories to defend against. De La Hoya is not a mandatory. Mayorga CHOSE to fight him. If Mayorga wins, he will have to fight his mandatory NEXT. It's not like Mayweather was a mandatory to Judah or Hatton is a mandatory to Collazo. You need to understand the difference, bro. People CHOOSE to fight name fights for MONEY.

the cat talkin about the mandatorys is right...you dont have to fight contenders every time out they give you fights you can take that are of your choosen ...nothing wrong with that

you get guys like calzagn that choose to fight weaker mandatorys for awhile instead of going for big time super fights but thats another thing

I think it was Piccerello that Mayorga beat to get the World Title. So he beat the champion.

You guys are trying to make blanket statements about belts, which is ******ed. In one division, the WBO belt may be the most legit, it was in the SMW division with Calzaghe, it was in the LHW division for years with Dariusz. In another it may be the WBC. It's about the fighter and the lineage, how he obtained the belt and who he's beaten.

You can't say "The WBA is garbage, only the WBC matters." Gatti had the WBC while Kostya had the IBF, and Kostya was the undisputed champ.

It amazes me that people still don't understand this.

Piccirillo wasn't the champion. It was a vacant belt stripped from Javier Castillejo because Castillejo wanted to fight Fernando Vargas instead of Mayorga. The WBC claimed that Vargas didn't deserve a title shot considering he had recently fought at middleweight, and that in one of his last bouts at 154 he was stopped by De La Hoya.

But Mayorga's last two fights had been at middleweight, against Trinidad and then against Mitchell when he couldn't make welterweight or even junior middle. Prior to that, he had been fighting at 147.

And even though DLH isn't a mandatory but an optional defense, one still wonders how he fit in the top 15 rankings having not fought at 154 for a while. Then again, based off of his past experience there and his capabilities, I could at least have him at #15 in my rankings.
