    Has anybody seen Waldo?

You will see similarities but you will not see the Oscar from back in the day.

He can train all that he wants to for the fight. You will never get back the days that you were not at the gym and I believe that with this guys life and schedule, that he has missed some days.

Its about keeping sharp. I am sure that he has had his scheduled breaks after bouts, to relax and heal. But what about the unscheduled breaks, the one that his life outside of the ring has forced him to take? I am certain that he will be well prepared for this bout, just dont expect to see the foresight that has helped him to and then over the top.

Its about training the eyes, keeping them sharp. Training the body for involentary reactions, 100ths of a second sharp. Being in the gym these attributes will become so very strong. As expected, being out of that gym will make them weak. These are the attributes that champions are accustomed to.

I believe that Delahoya has already come to that fork in the road. He has chosen other paths to travel when before the only road that he saw was paved in sweat, that being to the gym. I give him tons of credit for facing a dangerous character such as Mayorga. The guy is just kind of scary, wild and unpredictable. Definately not a safe fight to say the least.

Its the 100ths of a second that count for Oscar. If he has, as I suspected, been away from the gym more than usual this is going to be one tough battle for him. You will see the skill displayed from him, he is a classic fighter. But its that 100th of a second that I worry about for him. In the gym is where you hone in on that fraction in time. I just wonder where Oscar has been.

i'm a firm believer in being one of the 'guys' and taking some time off after a huge fight. i think it pays dividends because any professional athlete needs that downtime especially when going out to battle. having said that, i think the time off (i believe it's been an entire year in oscar's case) is going to hurt oscar's chances. he's fighting a young, confident bull who isn't afraid of defeat. here's to hoping oscar can pull it off one more time.

** Oscar has been inactive mostly in the last phase of his career. He had no problems being competitive with Hopkins before the KO after looking out of shape against Sturm.

I mean, he's only fighting some clod named Mayorga, not a finely tuned boxer. Tito had a long layoff and handled Mayorga fairly easily and can't box nearly as well as Oscar. Let's face facts here, Mayorga is likely to be DQed in this fight. His only chance is a wild haymaker landing flush as he stumbles off balance like the club fighter he is.

i think he probly has been out of the gym for too long but i still think he has a better boxing brain than mayorga and i think that will work to his advantage. this wont be as hard a fight as everyone thinks it will i think de la hoya will win easily.

knowing how to do it and being sharp enough to shave that 100th of a second are two completely different things.

I agree with the idea that if you stop going to the gym you lose that 100th of a second that could make a big difference in a fight.

I just don't believe that the 100th of a second will make any difference in this fight. Mayorga on his best day is slow. Oscar's reactions, even slowed by 100ths of a second, are still by far enough to dodge Mayorga's wild punches. Hell, a blink donkey with a cast around it's neck could outbox Mayorga.

Oscar KO 9 in a beating similar to Mayweather Gatti but worse.

I believe that its going to be tougher for Oscar than you believe it will be. I agree that Mayorga is not your classic boxer, but those are not the only people winning fights.

Also, Delahoya has fought the last few years at higher weights with slower fighters. Dropping to jr middle to fight mayorga is going to make things seem like they are happening so fast for him. I know that his eyes will be fairly sharp for the fight but speed can be a ***** to deal with if your not tuned to it. I dont believe that Mayorga is slow, he is not lightning fast but he is not slow. Mayorga is very unorthadox and unpredictable on top of that and I believe it will be a very competitive fight. Unless Oscars camp knows something about Mayorga that we do not.
