  • ne help with odds on the Ward Barerra fight?

I can't seem to find any anywhere.
Thinking of a small wager on the upset (Barerra by stoppage) but coming up empty with a google search, which is weird.

EDIT: Excuse the typo in the thread title, can't seem to edit that, but obviously it should read "Can anyone help with......"

    Cheers.

I've just had a quick check and nothing is coming up which is strange considering how close we are to the fight date - but then if I was a bookie I might not want to touch this one either.

Weird isn't it? Bookies will lay odds on anything, anything at all. Especially in the UK where you can bet on the weather, you can bet on absolutely anything, but I simply cannot find a line on this at all. As you say, fight is very close too - there are odds on Ward Kovalev out there but nothing for this one.

Hopefully some bookie is going to give a big price for Berrera win - could be a good value bet.

Problem here is that no-one's got any clear idea how this fight will play out. That's even if it happens - remember Ward pulled out of his last fight with about 2 weeks notice - and even if he does get in the ring there's too many variables, Wards ring rust and the new weight class mainly, along with Barrera's being a relatively unknown commodity. Bookies don't like fights where they don't know what odds to set.

I would expect someone to take it up in the next week or so, and yes, I'd imagine that Ward would be favoured - in fact if the odds are long enough I might put something down on Barrera myself and I almost never bet (these days).

I take your point about the possibility of Ward bailing with a stubbed toe at the last minute, but that should not stop a bookie laying a line for the fight - they'd have nothing to lose.
The difficulty of assessing the fight is a more likely factor. The Cuban fella could well be a rising star, but he could be nothing (he has a win over Chad Dawson himself, and has won 6 straight by stoppage, is big at the weight and has a good trainer, he is flying under the radar here and may well be one to watch), and then there's Ward. Will his inactivity haunt him? How is his chin? How will the weight suit him? (I personally believe this is a very natural weight for Ward so no excuses there).
Yes, it's a hard one to handicap. I think the bookies will go something like 1/4 on Ward, and 3/1 Barrera. I think that's 1.25 in US equivalent for Ward.
If I can get 5/1 or better on a Barrera stoppage I think that is decent value.

You said Barrera fought Dawson. He told you that was incorrect. Seemed pretty clear to me.

Regarding odds, I haven't seen anything either. Tough one as Barrera is more dangerous than anyone is giving him credit for and Ward always finds a way to win.

He beat Chad Dawson in November of 2000 via points, 21-11 at the World Amateur Tournament and Beibut Shumenov, in April of 2002 via KO in the first round at the Girado Cordova International Tournament
