That would make fighters fight less

What if they want to fight 3 or 4 times a year?
How many of boxing's biggest stars are currently fighting 4 times a year.

    None.

Now HBO can't even afford to put them on 2-3 times a year and has to create additional PPVs.

Meanwhile, Showtime now has the bigger budget than HBO and if Haymon can also get FOX/CBS/NBC/ESPN . . . just get ONE of them to start putting up money when the time buys are up, the Haymon pie will be WAYYYY bigger than what his cut of the HBO pie would have been.

So however much money that is for the fighters, it's more than it would have been sticking with HBO.

    • It's actually not a bad amount considering nobody outside the boxing fans know them, even casual fans don't.

The real problem is that they have been getting overpaid to beat bums.

It's the same with Leo Santa Cruz, he was getting paid over $1m to beat up factory workers. Why is he going to accept a similar amount for a real fight?

      • The size of the market is based on the size of the budgets.

Without Haymon, US boxing would be at the lowest point of all time and ESPN main event fighters making $15k.

GBP & Top Rank main event fighters on Solo Boxeo & Estrella TV make less than $10k. Think about that you dimwits.

        Embarrassing.

Aren't those reasonable reasons for a fan to prefer that most of the top fighters end up under the same umbrella?
And it's a shame that fights don't happen because of these network issues. I guess in an ideal world, everyone would just get along and we could watch the damn fights we want. But yes, I get your point.

Because that's what they're probably worth. I don't understand why you think overpaying guys and losing money on every show is the right business model.

            • Total? OH WOW!

This has nothing to do with HBO and them not wanting this fight or not having the budget, I think this is Peter Nelson sticking it to Arum because Arum been taking jabs at him during interviews.

              • Where are the Walters don't want the fight comments? Missing belts losing his belt , now wants 100/0

You call it a dying model, yet it hasn't even been a year since the richest fight in boxing history took place....and only a few months after Canelo-Cotto reportedly did $58 million in domestic ppv revenue.

Hard to say it's dying with those kind of numbers.... numbers that network TV or a subscription service are likely to be able to match.

                  • tv revenue and ticket sales will bring in the money. They should make the fight if Walters can make featherweight.
