Ok, Shakur Stevenson finally impressed me. Melian is not a top 10 in the division, but still a solid contender. Stevenson beat him just as bad as Oscar Valdez did. No doubt. Definitely a medal contender for Rio for sure and America's best chance of a medal in the men's side. I'm still not going to say he'll get the Gold, but I'll will say this, the Bantamweight division is wide open and in the taking for anybody. It's not like the Middleweight, Lightweight, Light Welterweight, Welterweight where the top fighters are going to be extremely difficult to beat.
If you want to beat Shakur you'll either need to be a better boxers than him or pressure him, because I noticed pressure fighters do better against him.
The Colombian fighter pressured him and he didn't look that good in the last two rounds.Comment

Yeah Melian should have lost to Ramirez. He received a standing 8 count then he got dropped later in the first round. Ramirez fought like a complete idiot in the last two rounds though. Ramirez didn't let his hands go after round one. Ramirez has always fought like this for some reason. Maybe this "defeat" could do more good for him than bad. He has to fight at a fast pace and keep his hands moving just like he did at the Olympics (except in the Final where he didn't let his hands go).
Melian tried to out-box Stevenson which didn't make sense at all. Maybe he was worried about the cut from his last bout.Comment

Yeah he looked pretty good today. I still want to see how he does with better opposition, but the Bantamweight division is there for the taking.
Teofimo Lopez looked pretty good throughout the tournament. I thought he got robbed just now against the Venezuelan. I have no idea why the Venezuelan was trying to box with Lopez to begin with, but imo Lopez was picking him apart.
Lopez is in a tough division. I would be very surprised if he ends up medaling.
Joseph Cordina is super talented and I'm still not sure he medals. He would have to get a favorable draw. You don't want to have to fight Alvares, Selimov or Conceicao before the semifinals. Cordina should be seeded, but knowing AIBA their seedings for the Olympics is going to suck and somehow Cordina will have to face one of the three favorites early on. The three favorites may end up having to face each other early as well. That's just how AIBA loves to do things. Their draws don't make sense.Comment
