  • Comments Thread For: Fury-Klitschko II Negotiations Still Ongoing, Not Done Yet

A member of Team Fury has reiterated to BoxingScene that world heavyweight Champion Tyson Fury (25-0, 18 Kos) is still negotiating his contractually stipulated rematch against deposed former Champion Wladimir Klistchko and that today's talk of a confirmed June 4 date in Austria is just that until everything is done.

These situations are intriguing, because the assumption is that Fury would have the leverage at the table.

He really doesn't. He is obliged to offer Wlad a rematch. Now I have no idea what stipulations may have been added from either side in that clause, but the bottom line is that Fury has to fight Wlad.

Theres really nothing to stop Wlad demanding it be in Germany/Austria. I'm sure in similar scenarios that both sides would want to the most lucrative arrangement balanced by an agreeable location. Here though, Wlad's main aim is to regain the HW throne, and so he may well not care how lucrative the rematch will be. We know how clever and tactical him and K2 are.

Wlad also has leverage because he can just walk away.

40 years old, 10 year title reign. If Fury's people tried to pull the A-side card I imagine they'd gladly stall Fury's career while Wlad unofficially hangs them up.

Meanwhile if Fury wants to move forward with his own career he has to get this done A.S.A.P.

After taking that L Klitschko must be playing hardball to get a bouncy castle ring this time around.

Since when did Austria become a destination for elite boxing events. New York, Vegas, London, Moscow.

              2nd tier > L.A, Montreal, Germany, Tokyo.

              But Austria?? What next Ouaggadougou?

Wrong. Manchester is 17k. Ernst Happel is 68k. Do the math.

Their is no way Fury sells out football stadia, Klitschko on the continent does.

The contracts state where ever it makes most money, knowing Fury can not fill a football stadium at home and had to cancel a fight at Manchester Arena due to poor ticketing in an arena for 17k before rescheduling for London Olympic venue with an insanely stacked card to help numbers this was always going to be in Germany, my guess is K2 are playing hard ball by suggesting Austria as its a huge arena yet more difficult to access for one thousand Brits.

Big fights always sell well in the UK, you don't know what you're talking about if you think this would be in a 17k arena.
