  • Comments Thread For: Jessie Vargas Credits New Trainer, Game Plan for Sadam Ali Win

In the past two years, two future Hall of Fame inductees have been in the corner of Jessie Vargas. First it was Roy Jones Jr., who worked with Vargas ahead of his fight against Antonio DeMarco in November 2014. Then it was Erik Morales, who trained Vargas before his clash with Timothy Bradley last June.

I hope this win doesn't go to Jessie's head. It was a good win, but there are still other welters of note to consider. Ali was a comer, he wasn't the Bona Fide like Bradley. I'd like to see Jessie in with Spence, or Porter. Kell hasn't done anything lately to impress and Khan is gone. Garcia? Just saying, that win only opened the door to some hard fights, he can't get lax.

I was never a huge fan of Vargas, pretty good at everything, not really great at anything. His fights up until late were always kind of 'blah'

But I have to admit, I actually enjoyed his last couple of fights. He's settling down a lot more on his punches and it's paying dividends. Now I'm very intrigued with some of the matchups you guys are floating around.

Vargas fought awesome against Ali, the body work was awesome, the jabs looked strong and heavy, great timing as well, Ali got timed and broken down, Vargas looked better than he's ever looked, plus his work with the youth is something that should be noted, the guy is a true professional, the whining after the Bradley fight was a little excessive but overall the guy is a great fighter that always figures out how to win a fight...he didn't win against Bradley but he was close as hell

I agree I was always a critic of him myself but when he sits down on his punches he can hit with accuracy. I really liked the way his new trainer had him getting off first against Ali, that paid huge dividends against a fighter with quicker hands. Also his new trainer seemed to be a no non-sense kinda guy which I think Vargas needed, instead of hearing "try this" in the corner his corner was saying "you NEED to do this", that confidence carried as Vargas came out in each rd.

Sadly, the ref prevented him from stopping Bradley...

The extra time that his comer wanted to create, by that stool stunt... Only pissed Vargas off.

Causing him to carpet bomb Ali's head.... With solid shots.... Ending the fight properly...

Allah & the ref were truly merciful...

I hope Sadam comes back stronger...

I can finally say that I enjoyed a Vargas fight. He has stamina and a good chin, too bad he is so one dimensional most of the time.

What game plan? come forward and land a right hand, left hook? That's what he always does. Load of bollocks.
