I don't get how this is fans fault.
Whats changed in boxing is highly relevant to how fans expectations have changed. Nowadays in boxing guys are deemed to have value by promoters well before they have proven to have value by fans. The promoter aims to get this fighter deemed valuable the right fights to move him along to a power position in the sport. There is no more trial by fire in boxing. Its more like a manager moving an actor to fame thru the right trajectory of films than a sport with how things work today.
With that being how most of the major promoters work most of the time that means that there are many guys who are 25-0 who've proven little in the world of boxing & when they do lose it does deserve to be judged more harshly. Problems arise in that some guys have been tried via fire & there 20-5 record has shown more skill in boxing than that 25-0 guy's record, but its hard to keep up with all that for the average boxing fan so that 20-5 guy doesn't get the appreciation he deserves. Thus the problem isn't anything to do with fans, its with the product & business model of promoters that have changed how boxing fans look at the sport.
