In the days of weighing in the afternoon of the fight it was impossible for fighters to gain more than about 5 pounds by fight time. They had just enough time to digest a good meal and some fluids. There was no time for an iv or rehydrating 15 pounds. A fighter who tried that would be bloated and waterlogged. Under today's rules once Canelo makes 155 he is free to gain as much weight as he wants by fight time. He is not breaking any rules or doing anything wrong. People exaggerate how much weight he will gain. He will probably gain about 15 pounds and weigh about 170 on fight night. Khan says he plans to be 165 on fight night. Any weight Canelo gains past 15 to 17 pounds would certainly do him more harm than good.
this is the best post on this thread, the rules are clear and the players are following, don't like it? go after the organizations ...

I never get Why people think weighing some huge weight on fight night is a good thing.

If you have to lose and then gain 20lbs + of water and regain that in 24 hours it's not good for you.

The bodies not like a petrol tank it takes time and nutrients and energy to get that water into the right places in different cells etc.

If Canelo fights at 180 that means he was severely dehydrated just 24 hrs earlier at the weigh and the effects of that can linger for days even weeks.

No all of them rehydrated that much while holding a belt.

Crawford was 155 defending his Jr WW, belt against Lundy.
Pac was champ at 130 and would be at fights at 146.
Trout was 171 defending his WBA against Nelo.

Funny how the word coward or unfair was never used with them.

And tell me what true middle weight has he dragged down in weight. Cotto?
Because he's fought nothing but Jr. MW'S and simply made them go 1 pound over.

                      But you're not bias right?
