Roman Gonzalez and Cuadras in negotiations.

Flyweight kingpin and pound-for-pound standout Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez has an ambitious target for his eventual move to 115 pounds: undefeated WBC champion Carlos Cuadras, The two are reportedly making "excellent progress" in their negotiations for the possible clash.

Several complications remain, including Gonzalez's upcoming title defense against McWilliams Arroyo and Cuadras' mandatory title defense against Srisaket Sor Rungvisai, but it's a damn interesting prospect.

Cuadras (34-0-1, 26 KO) took the belt in May of 2014 with a technical decision over Sor Rungvisai and has put together five successful title defenses, the most significant of them a unanimous decision over Panamanian bruiser Luis Concepcion last April. Cuadras is likely the best fighter in the division behind Naoya Inoue and a legitimate challenge for the heretofore-unstoppable Gonzalez.

With Arroyo and Juan Francisco Estrada at 112, Donnie Nietes at 108, and now Cuadras at 115, there's no shortage of challengers for the man considered the best in the world. The next couple of years are going to be fascinating to watch

All Cuadras has is a padded record and a WBC title (I wonder where he's from)

I much prefer Inoue, the top dog of 115

As long as the Estrada rematch eventually gets made, any and all of these fights are fantastic. He's going to have a great archive of fights to draw upon when he finishes if he keeps going this way.

Still, they dont want to let the Estrada rematch marinate for too long otherwise it'll either stagnate or one of them will lose. They're both in their primes, at their peak, and it's the biggest money fight for them. Get it happening!

Caudras would be a fairly easy route to a 115 belt. Inoue don't want it though, he might move up if Gonzalez steps into his division.

Moving up to 115 probably won't be a deal breaker to making a fight at some point with Estrada, so I don't mind it much.

Drop the $2mill BS and fight Estrada after he heals. Then move up, those little weight classes are a plague to a fighter's career. Gonzalez will have to go up three more weight classes, beating Estrada in his current, Inoue next, Yamanaka or Payano at BW, and finally Rigondeaux at SBW. The crazy thing is that would be a mere 10lbs up. It's very doable, especially since it has already been done before by Pacquiao, but Pac went above and beyond that. RG doesn't have to do that, he can stop at 122 and call it a career.
