Comments Thread For: Browne: 24 Million in Australia Backing Me To Beat Chagaev

LUCAS BROWNE believes he'll have a whole nation supporting him when he steps into the ring to face WBA heavyweight champion Ruslan Chagaev in Grozny on Saturday night (March 5).

While there will be few Australians to cheer him on in the arena this weekend, Browne feels everyone in his homeland will be turning on their TV sets and hoping for him to make history.

Australians seem to always lose when they step up so it's kind of hard to throw down some $$$ on him.

As a fellow Australian, I hope that he wins but truth is that 23,995,000 of us have no idea who he is and wouldn't have a clue that he was fighting this weekend

Would like him to win, as he seems a genuinely nice guy and has actually put in some real effort for this camp as opposed to his usual lazy fatass self, but training like a world champ for one camp in his entire career is going to be too little too late. Should have been training this hard for a long time. Chagaev is just a better fighter.

Nonetheless, I'm hoping that Chagaev comes in in poor shape and past it etc. It'd be great to see a typical aussie bloke make history by being the first HW title holder here.

I think Browne has a very good chance here. He's going to be the fitter, stronger, larger man going into this fight, and that can make up for a lot of deficiencies in other areas. Ruslan isn't a huge puncher, and he's not a particularly active one either, so he's going to have to consistently beat Browne to the punch. That'll mean stamina will come into play, and Ruslan isn't that great in that area either. I think Browne will outhustle Chagaev down the stretch and win a close scrappy points decision. Travis Walker and Fres Oquendo gave Ruslan a harder than expected fight, so it's not like he isn't immune to having problems against lower level guys. Browne is a lot better than either, so it's ****** to write off his chances.

Aussies need to have a lot more faith in their man here. I can understand not wanting to stick your neck out for another Australian fighter after so many failures at world level, but the truth is that Browne has a really good chance to beat Chagaev. I'm honestly surprised this fight isn't being seen as more of a fifty fifty affair. Browne won't knock out Chagaev, but providing there isn't some horrendous judging malarkey, I'd pick him to win on points. I think it'll happen.
