  • Comments Thread For: Parker Says Joshua-Martin is '50-50' Fight, Hopes To Get Winner

Joseph Parker says he and British star Anthony Joshua have both taken "risky fights" as they look to enhance their prospects in the rejuvenated heavyweight division.

Joshua takes on IBF world champion Charles Martin in a title fight in London early next month.

Parker fights rugged Frenchman Carlos Takam to be the IBF's mandatory challenger, earning the right to take on the winner of Joshua v Martin.

The Takam fight will tell us a lot about how good he really is.

Parkers put on some decent muscle but he needs to progress more on his boxing skill to match it with top guys, hes not a long boxer and Joshua is learning some nice subtle moves, handspeed alone wont get it done, I think hes gonna struggle to beat Takam whos strong and a decent boxer, great test for him

I think Takam is a regular contender type, don't think I have ever heard him described as a top ten killer before ... then again I wasn't on these boards 5 years ago.

It's really not a 50-50 fight.. Martin is nothing special, he's another Joshua victim who happens to hold a world title courtesy of Glazkov whose knee gave in. Joshua takes him out mid rounds. Parker is a bigger threat than Martin.

he is clearly top 10. as for being a killer, he is definitely underrated, with a relentless style.

after luis ortiz, takam is the most high risk-low reward fight in the HW division imo. i hope parker looks good but won't be surprised if he doesn't

and i doubt joshua/martin will fight him until the IBF forces it, and even then they'll probably have unification fights they can take instead. hopefully parker accrues plenty of world class experience in the mean time and gets himself on american TV
