Comments Thread For: Mayweather: Theophane Won't Be an Easy Fight for Broner

On paper, the fight between Adrien Broner and Ashley Theophane on April 1 is a mismatch. Broner is a four-division world titleholder who is 31-2 with 23 KOs while Theophane is a 35-year-old veteran whose 39-6-1 record includes several signs that he's reached his ceiling.

Broner is motivated to stop Theophane. I think he'll stop him in 5-6 rounds

I remember the look of relief in Garcias corner when he wqs announced the winner againts Ashley..Ashley is a solid fighter, but he is way passed the Garcia stage if his career..Bronner will win this fight. What we do have here is May beginning to promote his return against Garcia in may...or September. .he knows his name he said the other day "one call to Garcias father and I'll ruin canelo vs khan. " he is trying to gey into Garcias head..

The last time Broner was impressive and truly showed his potential was at 135 vs Demarco......a truly impressive performance. He's lost the interest/need to perform on that level since he's been getting paid. I don't see him turning the offense back on but it would be nice if he did......

This is very true I was at that fight. Fell off since then. I live in DC and I don't think I am going to that fight between Broner and Theophane.

Broner better be interested in this fight and training hard because Theophane will come in the best shape of his life.

It's a mismatch on paper, reality or however you look at it. Theopane isn't a top 20 light welter and probably European level at best.

The ONLY reason this fight is happening is because he is affiliated with Floyd.

I think the Floyd vs. AB beef is fake, and Floyd just wanted to get his fighter a title shot, and still give AB a chance to shine. Most promoters don't say "This won't be an easy fight for..." they say "My fighter Ashley Theophane is going to win!" Another twist to the AB saga:

                    February 29, 2016:

Talking about the next fights he'd like to make for Crawford, Bob Arum says he'd love to make a fight between his man and Adrien Broner, who is managed by rival Al Haymon.

"Oh I would love Broner," Arum said. "That is a good fight. I would do that fight in two seconds. I think that would be major — we'd certainly sell out the Forum (in Inglewood, California)."

It would be no surprise if many just chalked this up to lip service coming from Arum, knowing he has a rather contentious relationship with Haymon since his company is suing Haymon's for $100M. But Haymon didn't stand in the way of Amir Khan facing Golden Boy's Canelo Alvarez despite the ongoing legal issues between Golden Boy and himself, with Golden Boy also suing Haymon for hundreds of millions. In that sense, I'd suppose the onus is more on Adrien Broner to demand the fight be put together from his manager if he'd really like to make it happen.

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum says he’d love to make a big time fight between 140lb titleholders Terence Crawford and Adrien Broner.
