Roach on Pacquiao’s training so far: ‘Not so good’

MANILA, Philippines – With less than 6 weeks to go from Manny Pacquiao’s third ring encounter against Timothy Bradley Jr on April 10 (April 9 in US), Freddie Roach isn't impressed with his pupil’s performance as they continue to prepare in the Filipino boxer’s hometown of General Santos City.

"Not so good, but not bad either," Roach said in an interview with PhilBoxing.com.

Roach, who has been Pacquiao’s boxing coach since his title-winning performance against Lehlo Ledwaba for the IBF super bantamweight belt in June 2001, revealed that he has having difficulties setting a higher frequency of intensity in sparring as Pacquiao missed two days of training due to an eye injury.

Pacquiao hurt his left eye in his first sparring session with Canada-based Congolese fighter Ghislain Maduma, compelling Roach to shelf boxing’s only 8-division world champion for two days.

“We have a little bit of catching up to do in this coming week, particularly in the sparring aspect of our program,” Roach stated.

Roach stressed that Pacquiao had a tough time in sparring with Maduma on Thursday, February 25 as his left eye limited him in setting his pace.

"It's really frustrating because I saw Manny really trying to step up but couldn't," he shared. "At least Maduma gave Manny an opportunity to display his capability to cut the ring in Maduma's effort to evade his attacks which we expect Bradley to do come fight night.”

Pacquiao resumed his intense workout on Monday, February 29 as he spent several rounds on the punch mitts with Roach and the double-end bag.

Damn, Bradley can't catch a break. Gift decision in the first fight, tough loss in the second and now Pac's camp is already lining up an excuse should he somehow pull off a victory in the third fight.

Hope he's getting paid well for all this frustration....

              Roach...

[SIZE="3"]Roach is losing his mind, I think. You cannot trust him anymore. I cannot trust him anymore. Him or Arum. They seem to be blaming Manny for the Floyd fight. He did what he could that night and I had him winning 7-5. 115-113. According to Roach, he hasn't even watched the fight again. But he's claiming Manny lost. Smh. what a moron. Arum is a snake and cannot be trusted. I don't think Manny cares what they think but he knows something is off about both of them. Manny's country are the only ones to have his back right now. He believes in his ability and his experience and so do I. He seems to be a bit pissed off since the Floyd fight. Roach is speaking too soon I think. I am watching his camp closely, as I always do and Manny is looking violent, sharp, fast, and STRONG. He is going to KO Bradley this time. Atlas cannot help him. Only way Manny doesn't hurt Bradley, is if he's aged over night. But based off what I've seen, he hasn't. F Roach, F Nike, and F Arum. War Manny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!/SIZE]

Roach is just being roach. Nothing to take in here. This week training is not that good, next week manny will be knocking his sparring partners out causing roach to send some of them home. This is nothing new here, roach is just up to his usual stuff and as i can tell his timing is spot on.

This is going to be a close fight. Two of the best welterweights right now and Bradley might just be catching Pac at the right time.
