I was very impressed with Vicente Escobedo in his losing effort

    Let me explain.

I was never really expecting big thing for Escobedo. I didn't like his style and for some reason I felt in the fights I've seen of him, he was missing somthing but I couldn't figure out what, but I didn't expect him to be a defending Champion.

But in his losing effort at first I knew why I didn't see him as a futre Champion but as the rounds progressed and as he started throwing strong punchs and standing and punching I see Escobedo has what it takes to be a World Champion.

I was very surprised with his will and though their are things he can do in the ring to allow him to take a rest and still win the round but he can work on this.

I seen Escobedo who was hurt and came back and won that round, he never gave up and i had this fight a lot closer, in fact Im going to have to watch it again, cause I thought it could easily been a draw and the crowd felt Escobedo got robbed. And this fight was this close in my opinion.

Im not sure what type of power Escobedo has or but he defently has some power and I think if he sits on his punchs more those punchs can be so much more effective. And I think he needs to work on the first few rounds cause he looks a bit weak but then as the rounds go on, Escobedo gets stronger.

Escobedo has nothing to be ashemed of he fought a tough opponet. And the opponet came to win and gave a great effort.

And in my opinon, I though I was seeing Felix Trinidad in the ring with Escobedo, without the power and a left hook. But damn! Jimenez fight very, similar to Felix Trinidad, its like seeing a mini Trinidad.

    Yeah, great thread.

I don't give a damn if he lost or not. As long as he keeps fighting because he has a bright future in boxing.

A lot of people aggree with you that he has a bright future. But, I didn't see it. He did look really good as an amature but as a pro he never impressed me till today. I totally aggree with you he has a bright future. I think Jimenez too, and I would like to see Escobedo v. Jimenez II, I think it would be another exciting fight and Im positive Escobedo can get the decision this time around.

Frankly I was much less impressed than i expected especially for him being amateur champ and everything and all the hype that was going on about him. He looked very unsure in there, he looked very green in his movement and resolve in the ring.

I believe he has much further to go still hopefully they dont rush him into a title shot.

I was just as unimpressed with Daniel Jimenez, he looked limited, and while he did use what he did have to its full advantage i felt a lot of the times it was Vicente who gave him the opportunities to score.

Keep in mind Escobedo lost a split decision. 2 judges obviously preferred the aggressive work rate of the macho Jimenez, but in a 10-12 rd fight Escobedo would coast with an late KO or easy UD.

He boxed a bull of a fighter well, has a good jab, and had periods in the middle rounds where his timing was flawless and staggered Jimenez a couple of times. Jimenez scored the flash KD in the last round that made the difference in the fight, but I don't give him much of a future in longer fights with that kind of limited style.

The kid is ready for 8-10 rd fights with his style, and I predict a KO over Jimenez if they rematch soon.
