Comments Thread For: Rigondeaux is Ready: I Could Go Up To Fight Leo Santa Cruz!

For the past few days I have been trying to reach esteemed trainer Pedro Diaz who is in Europe for two interesting fights on March 5 and March 12. Travel, time zones and training schedules made it difficult but on Sunday afternoon I caught up with the Cuban and his star pupil Guillermo Rigondeaux (16-0, 10 KOs) following an early evening meal in preparation for their usual 10pm training session.

i really wish rigo would of signed with haymon and im sure hes starting to feel the same way. i get why he followed ward and cotto it looked like that promotion was gonna have success as well but now that the dust clears its obvious that haymon was the way to go for rigo. hopefully he can at least secure a fight with frampton in a purse bid. I actually for sorry for rigo i know his past managers and stuff try to bury him in a pr campaign but the reality is whether u like his fighting style or not hes one of the greatest boxers to ever enter the ring as an amateur and pro. Its unfortunate hes now like 36 and still is not able to get himself big fights.

its a shame that making donaire look silly and proving he was one best in the world was actually a death nail to his career. I get it hes boring to most but at the same time if he fought any big name people would tune in with big numbers

He'll need to give up a lot to make that happen, then. Rigo has absolutely zero leverage. It's not fair, but it is what it is. Sometimes the better fighter is the lesser draw and has to take unfair offers to whoop that lesser fighter's ass.

If he's willing to move up for Santa Cruz, he should just bite the bullet and fight Lomachenko. Even on a 70/30 split he'll make some good money.

Damnit Rigo smh. Taking a page out of the GGG playbook. Willing to go up to fight the biggest name in the division but not the best fighter in the division. Never a good look.
