What Canelo should have done to avoid all the heat and GGG altogether

He should have fought Cotto without the MW belt on the line

and claim something like ĻI'm fighting Cotto because i want to fight the best, but I dont think belts should be won at catchweights, so his belt wont be on the lineĻ

Think about it. Canelo would have gotten the same $$$, and Cotto would still be MW champion and called a coward ass ***** for ducking GGG, like he'd be certainly still doing, there would be no pressure for ginger to fight GGG and he could stay in his custom made division fighting big names for good $$$ as long as he wanted to, then he could wait for GGG to move up in weight, or for GGG to show signs of decline, then he could challenge him and beat him

some of the haters that now criticize ginger would be praising him for having more integrity than Cotto etc

this is what ginger should have done. Now Canelo cant drop that belt without looking like a total chicken in the process, and cant delay the clash with the kazakh monster for too much longer.

totally agree... actually when cotto dropped the belt then Canelo should have just dropped it at the same time. it made sense when both were fighting for it even though the after thought of fighting GGG isn't pleasant but when Cotto said **** it then Canelo should have said the same thing.

We all can pretend that Canelo doesn't give a crap but really boxers are egoistical very proud, competitive individuals. Even though we say they dont' care they really do, Canelo wouldn't have fought Lara or trout otherwise. His excuse of 155 is the only thing that isn't holding up when he has the belt, which is why your plan would have worked well because he still could have called out GGG but this time no reason to move up to 160 just stick around at 155.

Hope this fight does happen in September and if not Canelo will get that heat and he will care... just like any professional athlete

That was exactly the plan. They fought for the MW belt at Cotto's request. Makes sense for Cotto to demand that too, as otherwise he'd lose leverage at the negotiating table and his purse would have been smaller.

when cotto was stripped, all canelo had too do is say "I don't care for the belt, give me back my sanctioning fees.." I never understood how wbc had canelo fighting for a vacant title instead of giving ggg that chance vs anybody... canelo didn't need to deal with all this ggg heat, but he knew that and didn't care, so is too late now to regret...
