One of my favourite fighters to watch. This guy oozed manliness and machismo. An absolute beast in and out of the ring. When asked why he had such contempt for his opponents he said:

"I come from a country where the women give birth to men"

Wasn't given a fair shake by HBO who portrayed him as a classless brute, but the guy was honest and just old school tough who didn't mince words. A true warrior!

A very short prime tho. The epitome of a hungry fighter losing that hunger with success. The ww mayorga that ko'd lewis and forrest would have been a problem for a lots of the top ww throughout history imo.

Always fun to watch, he would smoke cigs after a win.
Win, lose or draw he always put on a show, going out on his shield trying to win, not just happy to reach the final bell.

Too bad he couldn't fight Margarito or Angulo before he retires, better way to go than the Mosley fight.

Trinidad ruined him. He had a chin of iron and nobody could hurt him. After Trinidad rained bomb after bomb on his chin and body he could never take a punch as well again. He still had a good chin after the Trinidad fight but it was never the iron jaw it was before the Trinidad fight. Now good punchers like Oscar, Mosley and Cotto could knock him out if they hit him often enough with bombs. He was a chain smoker and still had good endurance. If he didn't smoke his stamina would have been amazing, no doubt.
