I think since the Golovkin vs Canelo fight is not happening soon this is the next best option. I would much prefer to see Golovkin fight Danny Jacobs instead of Billy Joe Saunders. There is also the economic incentive of this being a really big New York fight. Haymon doing business with HBO makes this very possible now.

Lee was contacted about fighting Jacobs in June. Willie Monroe tried to get a fight with Danny for April but I guess Danny wasn't interested.

He is likely to fight WBA champion, Jacobs, in New York next June, perhaps as a farewell to arms. "Part of me feels that, if I win that fight, I'll just walk away as a world champion and retire," he smiles. "It's a title fight, a chance to redeem myself. But there'll always be that Golovkin fight out there too..."
When his coach, Adam Booth, first got in touch about fighting Jacobs, Lee said to him 'Well, I'll win this one and we'll call it a day!" Booth laughed at the simplicity of the notion. "Well, I know what you're like," he said.
The blow-heater chews up electricity, but it's still cold enough in here to see his breath ghost above the bright press of strangers.

          Hmmm ?

If Canelo is off the table, Saunders will be the top priority... (I'll assume)
But Billy likely will still want no part of GGG... So Jacobs works very well for GGG...

But if I was Jacobs, I'd be gunning for Saunders first... I'd seek a undercard appearance on Saunders next/first defense... Building towards a title tilt between the two... (Jacobs is vulnerable enough for Saunders to bite, IMO) Then a PPV clash with GGG for the winner ???

Poor GGG, still no dance partner worthy of the challenge... Perhaps Degale will be sooner than we think ?

Showtime/Barclays Center would be as interested in staging the fight as HBO/MSG would be, likely more so.

With HBO forced to bid against a viable option, the fight gets killed.

With Wade fighting on HBO it would appear a thawing in the ice is appearing, it can happen, will it ? Unlikely. They clearly hope keep Jacobs facing some softer touches until the WBA forces the issue.

This is a different scenario to the Aquacknis Krusher saga.

Doesn't look like any for April... most likely Lee in the Summer/June.

SMDH if it's true.. because he just waited 6 months after a 1 month destruction
