Lots of heavyweights recently have been training with kick boxers. Fury regularly trains with Verhoeven, Ghita and some others, praising their hard working ethic and no nonsense approach. I suspect Kharitonov is the same. He's one of the toughest bastards I've ever seen in any fighting sport and will be sure to push Povetkin hard in the run up to the fight.
Still, if Povetkin really wants to get in some good sparring with a fighter somewhat similar to Wilder in height, style and other attributes then he might do well to bring over Badr Hari. Might jeopardise the fight though, since Hari is a complete nutter. -
Kharitonov could have made a decent career in boxing if he had started a bit earlier. He was at least as good as Ustinov who also made the transition from kickboxing, and holds a win (unofficial) over Robert Helenius in the amateurs. He's also virtually unknockoutable, having taken the most brutal strikes MMA fighters and kick boxers have been able to dish out and never been legitimately KOed.Comment
