  • Lara vs. Hopkins as a GGG opponent

I am not a fan of GGG vs. Hopkins fight but clear this up for me. who is a better fighter at this stage of their career (given that Hopkins is similar to when he was vs. kovalev). We all have opinions but please answer the following questions before you answer.

    1) Would Lara win any rounds or see the final bell vs. Kovalev?
    2) Was there any opponent in recent history that did better against Kovalev than hopkins
    3) if Hopkins and Lara fought at 168 who would win? or be favorite to win?

Now, after answering these questions, why do the same hypocrites want GGG to fight Lara but are up in arms if GGG fights Hopkins after his negotiations with the other two champions fail (which is his primary goal).

are you guys making assumptions that Hopkins is half the man he used to be when he fought Kovalev or that he would be too drained at Super middleweight? Hopkins himself said he wants this fight at that weight and we all know Hopkins is a workhorse that can make any weight he says he can make. or are you guys really upset with Hopkins for fighting again as he should just retire. Or is it the Ward Doe phenomenon where your panties are still in a bunch because GGG vs. Ward didn't happen at 168 in late 2016 (oh wait we aren't there yet).

Personally i think that both Hopkins and Lara are not great fights where GGG would be a huge favorite, but at least in the Hopkins fight the Odds would be closer (regardless of how wide they are).

anyways, enlighten me why Lara is such a good fight and Hopkins is such a bad fight.

Hopkins would do better against Golovkin than Lara that's for sure and obvioius, but Hopkins is also the bigger fighter and a living legend, so it's probably not a fair comparison.

Having said that, and still knowing Hopkins would do better than Lara would, Lara would be the better opponent because he's not 51 year old coming off a bad loss and he wouldn't be coming down in weight (which is harder than moving up a few pounds or so).

Neither fight is good though. It's Canelo or bust as far as I'm concerned and boxing fans should put heavy pressure on Canelo/Golden Boy to give us the fight we want and the fight that makes sense.

I agree to some extent. if Hopkins will do better then he should be a better opponent but i understand the perception of one being an older fighter at the tale end of his career etc. But why would anyone want to see Lara if he will do worse. that's why i am buffered by the strong anti GGG sentiment of one over the other. I don't like either fight, I've expressed it previously. only reason i want the Lara fight is so that life long haters would shut up about the Molina conqueror.

Personally fights vs Canelo, BJS and Jacobs would be better. if not and GGG has to find a name then fighters like Degale and Jack, or even Abraham would pose bigger threats.

You can't compare fighters like that... Doesn't work like that. They're in completely separate weight classes. A>b>c doesn't always equal to a>c in boxing. Don't need to defend ggg if this match get made. He'll be in a no win situation.

Hopkins is 51 years old for goodness sake.

Erislandy Lara is far fresher and hitting that part of his career where he still has some youth but also some ring experience to go along with it.

There's no question that he would give GGG a tougher fight.

but that's all we have, we go based on resumes. for example most of the hate that ggg gets is because his resume. How else can i compare the challange each man can give GGG?

I don't like either fight but i think Hopkins is a tougher challange than Lara, yet the same NSB posters who claim this to be the worst fight of the century want the Lara fight to take place. to me that doesn't make any sense.

The same thing could have been said about Hopkins when he was 45-50. yet he went to prove everyone wrong every time, he beat world class contenders one after another.

Right now there are unknowns, however given that he is in similar shape/condition that he was vs. Kovalev how is he worse than Lara. i don't see Lara beating the same Hopkins who entered the ring vs. Kovalev.

ultimately i dont like either of the two fights as far as competitiveness goes. i think GGG wins both fights handily. my hope is that Canelo or BJS step it up and we wont have to see these fights take place.

Why is Hopkins getting credit for winning 0 rounds vs. Kovalev?

Lara won 5-7 rounds against the guy everybody wants GGG to fight next.

Dont need to make sense of it. He have a lot of haters and haters just going to try find every little things to hate the guy or discredit him. People are irrational so even if you make sense they won't see it from your perspective. Me personally I hate if this fight get made. I'll also hate if Lara fight get made because of the 10 haters on this forum think it be a good match.

I want to see him try unify the mw division and if that's not gonna happen because the remaining "champs" don't feel like their ready then unify the smw division. For some reason feels like I'm one of the last people who actually think belts matter.

What kind of BS comparison is this? Lara might be better for 3 reasons

                    1. he isn't 51
                    2. he wouldn't be forced to go down to a weight he hasn't fought at in over 10 years
                    3. he can move, which forces GGG to cut off the ring more use more energy and tire

Add to that he isn't a GBP employee like Hopkins who would only be getting the fight because he likely couldn't win and wouldn't derail the big money Canelo fight.
