Joe Calzaghe On Lacy, Jones and Manfredo

As speculation continues to mount surrounding the selection of "Super" Joe Calzaghe's next opponent, the Welsh Wizard goes into his scheduled July 8 outing at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium still riding high from the utter domination of Jeff Lacy less than two months ago. "Against Lacy, I think that I fought the best I ever have and also I think that maybe he took the fight for granted," said Calzaghe. "I had Lacy on my mind morning, noon and night for a few months. I had never been so psyched up and so focused on any fight. It was a dangerous contest and I knew I had to perform. I set myself a standard in the last fight and now people will be expecting that kind of performance from me all of the time." [details]

I dont understand why this so called champion wants to fight all these either up and coming fighters, or ex champions who are past their prime why doesnt he actually fight someone worth fighting so he can make a name for himself

i thought hes made a name for himself with lacy
at the end of the day hes signed to fight on july 8 and the guy can only take whats available
ive just read an interview with him in a weekly boxing magazine i get and he will only move up if a fight with clinton woods happens , he doesnt want to fight jones jr no more because it wont do nothing to boost hes carear so hes focussed on unifying the division and retiring as the undistputed s/middle champ

Yeah Joe is scheduled to fight, so I guess he has to take whats there, everybody seems to have commitments. Still its a shame a fight at the millenium stadium may not have an opponent more wore dangerous than Manfredo.

jones jr, he mentioned hopkins a while back as well and he also mentioned Tarver shortly after the lacy fight all guys that are past their primes and have nothing more to give to the sport of boxing. I understand now he said he didnt want to fight Jones anymore but i find it pathetic that he mentions only guys that are barely able to fight anymore.

So you are on the record as saying if he fought Tarver it would be a bad move because Tarver is past his prime?

Taver vs. Calzaghe is THEE fight right now from 168-175...THEE fight. You dont understand this?

all that fight against Lacy proved was that he was more experienced than a young hungry inexperienced fighter. If lacy had 2 more fights atleast before facy Calzeghe he would have done alittle bit better but Lacy was made into champion not because he was a great fighter just because he had some lower quality opponents that he didnt gain anything from. I will give Calzeghe credit for everything he did against Lacy but Lacy wasnt a great opponent either he was just too inexperienced.
