Comments Thread For: Hearn Plays Down Idea Of Prizefighter Revival

Eddie Hearn has played down the idea of bringing back Prizefighter.

The Matchroom Boxing chief, who hasn’t promoted an edition of the knockout tournament in more than 12 months, said that it was unlikely that fans would see the £32,000 carrot-dangling show at any point in the near future.

Agreed: Bring it back. It doesn't have to be on a Saturday night. Sunday afternoon would be great!

They should do it on a week night.

One of the last ones they did featuring James Toney was on a wednesday and that had good atmosphere

I don't like the one night tournament format (makes me think of Toughmen tournaments + I just don't think its enough rounds for a legit "winner" to be determined for the more competitive fights), but I thought Prizefighter did a good job being what it was trying to be. I wouldn't hate seeing more of them. I hadn't even realized its been so long since they had one.

Were they not doing good business or something?

I think it was starting to be complete horse**** and i can understand with Hearn's stable growing by the minute so he has a demand to put his fighters first. It's getting so recycled some fighters have been in it 3 times.

It had some good moments, and was interesting when a recognized name was taking part. For the most part though, i wasn't really a fan.

Prizefighter has rescued many a boring night in front of the TV. Without Prizefighter you don't get to see things like Danny Williams getting smashed around the ring by a man nicknamed "The Fridge" and WOOOOO Jason Gavern beating James Toney by doing little more than shouting a lot.
