From a segment of my column in May of last year:

"Ricardo Williams Jr. had the future ahead of him. He won a silver medal at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney and signed a $1.4 million dollar contract upon turning professional. The first bump in the road was a February 2003 loss to journeyman Juan “Pollo” Valenzuela, but sadly, it all came crashing down for the Cincinnati welterweight this past week, when a federal judge sentenced the 23 year old to three years in prison for his part in a conspiracy to distribute *******. While Williams intends to use his time in prison to stay prepared for an eventual return to the ring, his journey may be more difficult than ones taken by champions Diego Corrales and Bernard Hopkins."

He was never overly imppressive as a pro in my mind...couldnt crack an egg.

I think Lou Dibella wanted him to get his ass kicked...

Ricardo was a junior welterweight and in his first pro defeat Dibella had him in with Juan Valenzuela who was in shape and weighing about 156...not too mention he fights alot like Mayorga.

He was just way to big for Ricardo...Jr. fought brave and took a ton of shots...I just remember thinking why the **** does Dibella have his super prospect in with a guy this big and crazy?
