Would GGG and the MW division be relevant without Canelo and Cotto?

The more I think about it, GGG has made a fairly decent name and paycheck(s) for himself by name dropping other fighters (not to include Floyd Mayweather Jr. & Andre Ward) but I cant help but think, if Cotto and Canelo were no where near the MW division, how popular would he or the division be? I have no doubt hed be the unified WBC, WBA, IBF MW champ and I am sure hed still have a great KO% but what are belts, and KO rates without the recognition of a "BIG" $ and career win?

All and all, no one wants to fight GGG but for that reason hes able to make a very nice living, had there never been a MW Canelo or Miguel Cotto, hed more than likely be another Rigondon't. So in all reality unless GGG's team has another promoting angle for him, he best wait his turn, hes in a win /win thanks to other peoples names other than his own...

While you can say that, the sad truth is that outside of the few popular fighters (Pacq/Floyd/Cotto/Canelo) and some UK folks (Kell Brook), the only fighters who make decent dough are elite Heavyweights.

The rest of the fighters who are not in the right division (not HW) and are not from the right nation (non UK, Mexico and sometimes Germany and China) are exiled to relative anonymity.

Kovalev makes very little money and has to travel for it. DeGale has been going everywhere because he's not a draw. Ward's getting flak for being overpaid (at only $2M/fight) because of Olympics/Super6. Roman, the #1 P4P fighter made $500K for being on a PPV.

It's kind of sad, but that's business.

GGG was gaining in popularity before they made it to the division. the same can be said pretty much about any fighter. If Canelo had no names around him would he be anyone? would anyone be anyone if they had no one of relevance to fight or to even talk about fighting about.

GGG didn't get popular because of name dropping, he got popular because of what he does in the ring. Every popular fighter called out other fighters around their divisions, at least GGG tried to make some of these fights, can't say the same for everyone.

Sergio was the last true MW champ. The fact that Canelo & Cotto are the last two lineal champs is a joke. They've been able to become the top in the division based on their name alone. That proves the MW division is a joke. There were bigger names in the SWW division when Hopkins was MW champ but nobody tried this stuff they're doing now.

Cotto and Canelo have added absolutely NOTHING to the division!
Cotto beat a crippled Sergio and hasn't defended the title at the "correct weight" once!
Canelo has been entering the ring at well over middleweight weight and still refuses to accept the challenge to defend the belt he won.
Neither has done one thing for the division, they both should have been stripped for hiding!

i say we get rid of 160. 154 should be light middle, 155 middle and 168 super middle.
