Its a shame that we never got to see that version of Tyson against a great fighter or see how that version of Tyson would have matured had King not got a hold of him.

Come on bro, Tyson was 23 years old when he got pulverized by Buster and he was barely 30 when Holyfield outboxed him and beat him up. For all his aggression and counter punching skills he could not beat a bum like Buster nor could he dent Holyfield who was originally a Cruiser Weight fight.

Why do people feel the need to defend the guy by saying Don King failed him. Tyson failed himself. We did see him against fighters that I don't consider great (Buster, Holyfield and even Lennox) and he got whacked easily. So imagine what would happen if he fought somebody great.

Maybe he could have been great if he had the right team behind him. Maybe. But the fact is he got beat up by a bum like Buster and that speaks volumes about him. All his strength got nullified by Holyfied and we are going by history here not what could have happened.

The 'long count' talk is always interesting in the Douglas - Tyson debate.
Douglas did great to get up from that punch though, it was a lovely shot.

But it had been 5 years after D'Amato died and 2 years since he left Rooney. He wasn't he same fighter anymore. His head movement was gone. His counter jab was gone. Its very hard to be a come ahead 5'10" HW with little movement and no counter jab.

So basically what you are saying is that if Floyd didn't have his father or uncle in his corner then that would be the end of him?
A lot of fighters change trainers and they either elevate their style or remain the same but bottomline is your trainer does not fight for you.

Khan was terrible but he's a little better with Hunter and was actually a lot better with Roach.

This idea that Tyson's talent went south because he lost his trainer is absurd. He never had it from the get go. He had power and movement but Tyson was just a Bull and anytime he met a Matador he would be tamed.
