S: 2015's fighter of the year, Gennady Golovkin, joining us now on sportscenter. so april 23rd, it's all set now at the forum, you and Dominic Wade, the IBF top challenger. how gratifying is it for you to be able to fight this fight in your adopted hometown here in southern california?
GGG: it feels great. this is my second fight in the forum, this is my house. this is my second house. i feel great.
S: alright so Dominic Wade, he was on the undercard of your sold out card at Madison Square Garden, what do you know about him?
GGG: he's great, he's very much rated. he's young, he's a challenger.
S: 21 straight knockouts in your last 21 fights. is that something you go into every fight, looking for the knockout?
GGG: absolutely. yeah, this is my style. i want.
S: you and your trainer, Abel Sanchez, i've heard that you guys train to knock people out. how do you train differently to knock people out as opposed to a fight where you think you might have to go to the distance?
GGG: not big difference, just yeah, just maybe special for me. Abel cares. he's great and he has big plans for me. more focused, more physical. you know, more special to mexican style. different style.
S: you made a comment recently that all the fight blogs have picked up now, it's everywhere, it's click bait on all the boxing websites, that you don't like Floyd Mayweather's style even though you respect him as a great champion. what did you mean when you said that?
GGG: no, he has a good style, you know, like difficult for everybody. he's champ. he's never beaten him. (i think he meant to say, he's never been beaten.) and, he's great champion you know. i think, he's very smart, he has great boxing IQ. for people, sometimes people like big drama show, big knockouts.
S: while you fight Dominic Wade in april, in may, Canelo Alvarez is gonna fight Amir Khan at the new arena in las vegas. and both of these, no disrespect to the opponents, but these are supposedly tune-up fights for the big one, you against Canelo Alvarez. have you allowed yourself to think about that fight yet, or are you just focused specifically on Dominic Wade?
GGG: no, my focus right now is Dominic Wade, absolutely, 100%. and i want fight with Canelo because this is amazing fight for us, not just for me, for him, for us, and just for business, for boxing fans, for TV and just i think just for the sport, maybe now this fight is number one.
S: and fight fans are dying to see that, they can't wait for it to happen, and we came across this picture that gives us a pretty good idea of where this might happen (picture shows of GGG with Jerry Jones at Cowboys stadium with a GGG cowboys jersey) ... that's you at the Cowboys stadium with Jerry Jones, so is that the venue we're looking at?
GGG: Mr. Jones, yeah i remember this a couple months ago at my visit to Dallas stadium, amazing place, huge place.
S: so can we pencil in, assuming wins for you and for Canelo, can we pencil in Cowboys stadium, GGG against Canelo?
GGG: i hope so. it's possible, it's possible.
S: and we're looking at mexican independence day, is that what i'm hearing? when is that, november? september 16th. okay, 'cause you know fight fans wanna get this down on the calendar right away..
GGG: absolutely.
S: what do you see when you look at Canelo Alvarez as a fighter?
GGG: just, great fighter. same speed, same size, same power, same strategy. i think for us, it's a 50/50 fight.
