Comments Thread For: Victor Ortiz, Joel Diaz Are No Longer Working Together

It seems as though the partnership between trainer Joel Diaz and former welterweight belt-holder Victor Ortiz is already over. After Ortiz's last fight on December 12th in San Antonio (an eighth round stoppage of veteran journeyman, Gilberto Sanchez Leon) Diaz expected Ortiz to report back to his gym in Indio at the beginning of 2016.

Victor is done. It's a shame, because I think it would make for good tv if he could get back in the mix, but it's been too long. I can't see it happening.

Might be official, Ortiz's career is a wrap. Still want to see Berto rematch.

Victor Ortiz has never seemed like his heart is fully into boxing. If he'd rather be out partying with his buds then more power to him, but he will never be an elite fighter by doing that.

Diaz is a great stand up guy and I think he could have been a great mentor for Ortiz, but I don't know what's wrong with the guy. He's probably going to try to go to Freddy Roach after this, but he has a bad rep now and I don't think anyone is going to put up with this. I feel like I'm the last fan that truly stuck for Ortiz despite all of the losses and dumb setbacks. He might as well go back with his trainer Danny Garcia. He's obviously had some success with Garcia and none with whatever the hell he's been trying to do. Sometimes I don't feel like going into the office or commuting to work, but a job is a job and you have to come in and perform.

This dude had so much talent. But he just was never mentally there for this sport. I didnt even know he had a fight in December.

Vic should get with Atlas. Ortiz strikes me as the type that needs that drill sergeant style trainer to get him to take anything seriously.

I still think him vs Rios can still be a big fight.
