  • Comments Thread For: Golovkin's Coach: No Catch-Weight For Amir Khan

Abel Sanchez, trainer for IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin, says his fighter will not entertain a catch-weight bout for Amir Khan - should he secure an upset victory over Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez on May 7th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

first it was "anybody can get it from 154 to 168"

3 people said "ok let's make it happen!"

then it turned to "we meant 154 to 164" after mayweather retired and Ward moved up to 175

ROFL aren't you Lil G fans embarrassed?

Well, they are telling the truth. The money and prestige of beating someone like Floyd. It would be the best moment for their team. But, as a Floyd fan, I don't wanna see the fight at 154, they should do it at the full middleweight limit, so there are no excuses after the fact.

GGG's team should want the fight against 154, just to make the fight happen. Even a drained, and starving GGG would KO Khan in 4 rounds.

Well if Khan happens to beat Canelo, he'd be on top of the world and could do whatever he feels like doing. Relinquish the belt, go back down to 154, 147, bring up anyone from 147 at a catchweight, fight for a JMW title. He would and could do as he pleases. He'd be the talk of 2016 for the rest of the year, until Ward defeats Kovalev. They'll both share the 2016 glory.

Big if though. But nice to see Abel burning bridges already, in case the unexpected happens. Khan has nuts to go up to 155 already, no obligation for him whatsoever to fight GGG or any other MW.

The begging for a payday has begun, and Khan hasn't even won yet.

Biggest coward? No, he's no coward.

He's just mismanaged a little or maybe managed right to his liking, but the Ward duck was a smart move on his side. That'd have been a guaranteed loss to the better, bigger fighter.
