Now for a serious discussion on who would win this fight.
I've never been a Ward fan but you have to give credit where it's due. He cleaned up 68 and defeated plenty of underrated fighters that have proven to be champion material even after their fights with Ward. But is that enough to face the Krusher? The question I think will be key, is how he handles people his own size or bigger (i.e Paul Smith granted it was a tune up following a lay off...) His next fight at 175 will be an indication as to how the fight is split in terms of the favorite and underdog.
Kovalev is the man at 175. He's been consistently fighting tough contenders but can't seem to fish up the other champions. Has he faced anyone at Wards level? I say yes. Nobody was dissing Hopkins while he was winning but it seems to be a trend to dismiss someone when they lose because the outcome is not favorable. As far as experience Kov is set to go, he's ready to fight anyone at this point it's just a waiting game.
Size and experience will be Key for Kovalevs victory (my pick). I honestly just don't see Ward beating Kovalev unless he drags this fight out and "wins" rounds but every round that goes by is more punishment he has to avoid like Hopkins that might leave him defending rather than attacking. Ward being the american will have some edge in the scoring and can definitely edge out a Mayweather/Castillo sort of fight. This fight honestly will determine a clear and the most viable p4p, No cherry picks and no catch weight. Just a good old fashioned fight.
