Impossible to tell. But clearly he doesn't believe in himself enough to face a fully fit Golovkin.

As long as Alavarez is still making 155lbs comfortably (which I doubt will be the case for much longer), he should insist on taking those five pounds of flesh from Golovkin.
Do you think Canelo stands a chance at 160? I think Canelo would fair pretty well. I also think he'd have the mental edge over GGG because he's been in big fight atmosphere before. The media, the fight week obligations, the hype can play a factor. Sanchez was very careful with GGG the week of the Lemiuex fight. Pulling him from interviews early. Making sure he doesn't shake to many hands because he was afraid of GGG getting sick. Won't be able to do that in Vegas. It may not be that big of a deal but when you've been there before you don't get caught up in the moment or let it overwhelm you

Canelo can comfortably fight at 160 and do damage to most middleweights (how he deals with the 'Peter Quillin'-size middleweights, cutting down from a fight 180-185 to make 160, is still in question); Canelo simply knows that he can comfortably still get down to 155/154 and fight well.

Just because Golovkin can't backup what his camp has been parroting for years, is of no concern to Canelo.

If he wants to fight Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, the terms are already pretty well set; fight is at 155, with Canelo getting a 85/15 split (if Golovkin wants an extra pound, he should be ready to give up 5% of his take). Don't like the terms? walk and find a different fight.

I think he understands that is why they said 160 or vacate. You think they are gonna suicide if the fight doesnt happen? No way

If those are the terms from Team Golovkin, after selling 100k PPVs, why even waste the time with this charade, knowing that Canelo isn't going to fight at 160? Probably should've pushed back when Sanchez was running his mouth.

Should've said to hell with the step-aside fee, give me the belt, and go on with his business.

Alvarez vs Kirkland put 40k people into a ballpark, without any belt on the line; to act as if Canelo holds the belt in any type of esteem is laughable.

Why would Canelo have paid the sanctioning fees after Cotto dropped it then? Why did Oscar go out of his way to say Cotto was disrespecting boxing?

If Canelo wants to forever be known as a ***** like Rid**** Bowe, then he can drop the belt and continue fighting junior welterweights.

Because Cotto had Oscar over a barrel and forgot the vaseline; Oscar lashes out to the press when things don't go his way, as is his nature. lol

Canelo, at 155, has fought Angulo, Lara, Kirkland, Cotto, and is due to fight Khan. With this Golovkin farce out of the way, Alvarez can look towards fights with Michael Soro, Demetrius Andrade, Gabriel Rosado, and WBO 154 champ Liam Smith; all at 154/155. (Heck, throw in Anthony Mundine as an option if you want).

It's not like Alvarez is facing a dearth of fights that he can sell.

Now, Golovkin, refusing to take the biggest fight of his career at 155 and simply be handed another belt, does what next?

The WBA has already said that they will call for Golovkin-Jacobs once the WBC situation is settled; with Showtime backing Jacobs, Golovkin and his camp would likely have a decision to make. Beyond that Team Golovkin would likely have to overpay to block Saunders-EubankJr II.
