Is Algeri the key to big fights now?

Manny beat him and got the Mayweather fight

Khan beat him and got the Canelo fight

Is Algeri the gateway to big fights?

Algieri can make a name for himself and fight Conor McGregor. He has the Kickboxing background, perhaps some MMA instinct, and has gone through wars against Pac and Ruslan and work with Khan. I mean Conor and Algieri could do 1.5ppv and have Algieri the first Male boxing champ cross over champ to MMA ala UFC.

Great idea! I would enjoy watching that match up happen.

        He's the new Berto.

Once upon a time, all you need to do was beat Berto to get a Mayweather payday.

It's American sports. If such a move happened I'm willing to bet so many would jump the bandwagon to support Algieri for the transition alone. But Haymon wouldn't allow that. =P

No he isn't. It is just coincidence. Algieri is a good average boxer who won a 140 pound title in a fight he really should have lost by a good margin. He will probably never hold a world title belt again because he is not quite good enough. A win over Algieri is a decent win but not the kind of win that would earn anybody a really big fight. Khan has a loyal army of fans who will travel and pay to watch Canelo knock his head off. There is probably no other boxer Canelo could fight who would make him as much money as Khan will make him.

McGregor would beat Algieri in kickboxing. In the octagon he gets killed.

Algieri is a beast in a cage that few hold the key to unlock.

A lot better than Berto, Broner and Lopez.
