Comments Thread For: "Fighting Words" - Canelo vs. Khan: A One-Ring Circus

by David P. Greisman - Last night's Super Bowl put the two best football teams together in the biggest one-night sporting event of the year. Sometimes the games are competitive and entertaining. Sometimes they are one, but not the other. Sometimes they are neither.

That latter scenario was the case last night as the Denver Broncos topped the Carolina Panthers, and it was also the case in last year's boxing match between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao.

I truly hope none of you buy Canelo is fighting GGG next

Canelo will not be fighting GGG next. Frank Warren already let it slip that the September Slot is for Liam Smith.

Let's face it, Canelo isn't the brave warrior MW champ his supporters had hoped he'd be. He's a Diva who is charting a path worse than anything Floyd ever did.

    He is pathetic.

It was good to see Mayweather vs Pacquiao eventually materialize, but I would have preferred to see the fight around 2008-2010 as I feel it's when both fighters were on top of their game. If Canelo doesn't fight GGG then he drops the belts, but the most important question is; where does he go from there? He's too big for the welterweight division and the only middleweight who wants to fight him is GGG. I think Canelo vs GGG will happen in November regardless of what other people say but I think Canelo will have to abandon Caneloweight and fight at 160 lbs, although I don't think GGG would have a problem dropping 5 lbs to prove a point.

I hate when people say the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB match the two best teams in their championship games. That's not true. The two best teams can be in the same division, they can't meet in the championship game. But other than that I agree with the article.

Actually, he's the face of boxing. And precedent and protocol says that if you wanna get the big payday against the face of boxing, you have to play by his rules. Everyone's had to bend to get their shot, Canelo included.

You can b1tch, moan, and talk all the "middleweight" and "mandatory" bull**** you want. The fact is, like it or not, Canelo has basically settled in at 155. I ain't saying its right. But its juat how it is. And 155 is a helluva lot closer to the jr middleweight limit than the middleweight limit. So if GGG wants to fight guys from lower divisions, especially ones that are bigger stars than himself, he's gonna have to play by their rules.

Basically at this point, GGG has about three choices. Fight Canelo at 155. Or, continue to fight peole no one cares about in his unification quest that nobody cares about. Or, move up. And now that Ward is no longer at 168. It means he's likely gonna have to gp to 175 for the big-time fight he supposedly craves. Balls in his court.

Stop calling Canelo the MW champ. I respect his ability but 155 is not a weight class!

I heard Canelo wanted Rigondeaux but Rigo was too much of a coward to move up in weight
