So Kell Brook wants GGG at 155?

By Scott Gilfoid: After hearing the news that Amir Khan will be fighting WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez at middleweight, IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook reportedly wants to face IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin at a catch-weight of 155lbs. Just how serious Brook is in wanting to fight the hard hitting Golovkin is unclear.

“Get me Golovkin at 155 pounds,” Brook said via the Metro from IFL TV.

This is obviously impossible for the time being, a fight between Golovkin and Brook, because Golovkin has a fight scheduled next April on the 23rd against #3 IBF Dominic Wade. After that, Golovkin could be facing Canelo Alvarez in September of this year for his WBC middleweight title if Canelo gets past Amir Khan in their fight on May 7 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The earliest a Brook vs. Golovkin fight could take place is in 2017 if at all. I don’t think Golovkin would ever agree to a catch-weight of 155lbs for a little known fighter like Brook, however.

“I started laughing,” Hearn said to IFL TV about Brook’s interest in fighting Golovkin. “And he said ‘I’m serious.’ I actualy spoke with [Golovkin’s promoter] Tom Loeffler. I believe Kell is the best welterweight in the world, but he has to build his resume to prove it. He will jump into a super fight in the summer. He has to and he will.”

Well, I kind of doubt that Brook would jump into a fight against Golovkin, because it’s just not going to happen. But for the sake of argument, if it did take place, I think Brook would be in a world of hurt. Brook’s fighting style is made to order for a slugger like Golovkin. Brook is to small and he would be going right into the teeth of Golovkin’s offense all night long.

The best case scenario I could see for Brook is him getting chewed up by Golovkin in three or four rounds. Most likely though, I see Golovkin dispatching Brook in one or two rounds. I can’t see Brook last long with a fighter as powerful as Golovkin. Even if Brook chose to clinch all night long like he did in his fight against Shawn Porter, Golovkin would avoid the clinches by stepping back and nailing Brook with left hooks and right hands each time he tried that move. Martin Murray tried clinching all night against Golovkin, and it didn’t work. Golovkin quickly figured out what Murray was doing and he was able to back up a step to avoid his octopus like arms and then nail him with shots.

I am a GGG fan but I don't want GGG fight Brook or Lara ... they are just small... the same way I didn't like idea of GGG vs. Mayweather.

I want GGG fight Canelo or Saunders. #Allthebelts!

So Kell wants to weight-drain GGG down to 155. GGG already refused to fight Canelo at 155 so why would he suddenly drain himself to 155 for Brook who doesn't even have a MW belt. Makes no sense to me.

GGG said he'd fight Floyd at a Catchweight and only Floyd. That's understandable in some ways because it would have been a great name to risk being weight-drained against. Brook on the other hand is a no one, comparatively speaking.

I actually think he'll end up fighting Canelo - Khan winner at a 155 catchweight.

Pretty much this. Can't see why GGGod would drain himself for a nobody. But if this fight did happen Brook would get brain damage.

I wonder if Kell Brook could beat Liam Smith? Seriously I'd love to Danny Garcia vs Kell Brook, Kell just needs to stopping begging Khan.

                  Heat of the moment.

Eddie Hearn knows he has to deliver Brook Garcia or either the winner of Pac/Bradley or Thurman/Porter. Brook has pretty much told him as much.
