Khan Is NO Miguel Cotto, So Let's Remember What Freddie Said

Cotto is bigger, stronger, and has fought all prime top talent. Their plan was to back up Canelo, throw combinations, move... Well then, Freddie said their game plan didn't work too well because they were surprised and under-estimated how big and strong Canelo was, Cotto despite knocking Geale out in convincing fashion, did not have the power to hurt or slow Canelo down. So Freddie advised to put any rematch discussion on the back burner. Cotto can take a helluva punch, and he got marked up pretty good. Amir Khan doesn't have the size, strength, power, or chin that Miguel Cotto has, and does not have a recent resume of opponents that remotely resemble who Cotto has fought recently. Cotto would clearly knock out Khan, and that does not bode well for Khan, having zero chance against Canelo.

This talk of Khan being overpowered because Cotto wasn't strong enough as a comparison is ridiculous. Cotto is smaller and slower than Khan, Khan has 4 inches in reach and is 1 1/2" taller. There's no comparison. Cotto beat a weight drained Geale after GGG turned him to mush. Khan will be fighting at the size he should be, junior middleweight/superwelter. Khan takes a good punch, ask Maidana, he has time to put on muscle and will stay fast. This can be a good fight. I don't see Canelo overpowering him, but it could happen. I don't see Khan overpowering Canelo, but that could happen too. So many people have invested so many words in putting down Khan ever since a fight with Mayweather was possible that people forget he actually is fast and has power. Khan will be able to turn Canelo around and put him out of position. We will see.

I actually don't think the comparison is that ridiculous. Cotto is way stronger than Khan and he couldn't move Canelo. What makes you think that "Popcorn Hands Khan" will be able to hurt or even back Canelo up. I agree 100% with TLC8, Khan has zero chance of wining this fight. I'm predicting a 2nd round KO.

I believe the added weight will help negate that speed. Khan's only real advantage is going to be taken from him. He better hope that the longer reach will be significant enough.

If Lara can't put dents in Canelo as a southpaw, I just can't see what success Khan will have.

Lara has better ring craft, comparable hand speed, better foot work, more natural at MW AND left-handed.

I agree this is a mismatch most likely and a big shock. However the more I think about it, the people that give Canelo the most trouble are boxers. Look at past fights. Who did the best against him or beat Canelo? Floyd, Lara, Cotto. All very skilled boxer/technicians. Sure Lara and Cotto lost but to many they did very well and even some think they won (even though that I don't agree with).

Now look at Khan, while he is not as skilled as Floyd (no shocker) he is faster with hands and feet that all of the above. At a heavier weight, maybe his chin will serve him better but I doubt it. His only shot is to box/move, in and out all night long and tie up when close as much as he can and stay off the ropes. Canelo is lethal when he has someone on the ropes. I do not see Khan hanging in 12 with Canelo, but I would not be truly shocked if he hangs in for a decision somehow. I can tell you this, if Khan is still standing at the bell he will probably get the decision but I cannot see Canelo actually outboxing Khan.
