Comments Thread For: Duva Wants Kovalev Back Around June, Opponent TBD

Last year, when Sergey Kovalev stopped Jean Pascal in eight rounds, Kathy Duva of promoter Main Events knew what would likely be next for her light heavyweight titleholder - a defense against mandatory challenger Nadjib Mohammedi. That’s indeed what happened, with Kovalev going on to wipe Mohammedi out last July.

Glad to see they're looking at staying in Montreal, I thought they missed an opportunity to grow Kovalev's brand there by not fighting Mohammedi there (w/ Pascal on the undercard). Either of Kovalev's last two shows in Canada were bigger than Stevenson's last 3 shows combined.

Not that many opponents in the ocean for the June fight. Most at 175 are with Haymon.

How about Brähmer? He's has the regular WBA strap and is European so a fight with him in Germany or Russia would make sense.

sad when one promoter/team is being polite and the other is out and about talking about "chickenson" after she took very little heat for leaving a purse bid she pursued...and these ppl will try to convince you that boxing doesnt have race issues..
go ahead and tell me about stevenson being a pimp or w/e...as if he didnt do his time and start his only family and show that he knows better now..enough already

A fight with Beterbiev would be the obvious choice for a Moscow fight. He's ranked no.2 by the IBF, Kovalev is due for an IBF mandatory this year, both are from Russia. The problem is that Duva hasn't exactly been nice towards GYM (Beterbiev's promoter) following the Stevenson fallout.

I'm going to guess it's going to be Dominic Boesel. The WBO no.1 ranked contender.

Stevenson really is a piece of s*** now that I know the details of the offers and so forth, Stevenson is ducking. Feel for Kovalev, Beterbiev is with Haymon too, what else is left other than Ward??
