Comments Thread For: Frank Bruno Would Not Be Issued License, Says British Board

Former heavyweight boxing champion Frank Bruno's hopes of returning to the ring have been dashed after he was told his application for a licence would be declined.

The 54-year-old posted on Twitter that the British Boxing Board of Control had informed his agent that "should I apply for a licence this would not be granted".

Family and friends must make sure he isn't licensed anywhere, the big lad obviously needs help and my hope is he gets it.

Maybe he just wants to challenge himself. Not like hes getting in the ring with Fury or Joshua. Once a competitor always a competitor. That fire never really ever burns out, may dim but never out. I see where guy like him and Roy Jones are. They love to compete.

He can work with boxing in different ways, why does he need to 'come back'. Why doesn't he work with kids in a gym for instance.

I hear what you say but Frank now is fragile of mind and the last place it seems he should be is in there. One small win would more than likely lead to another fight and I can't see anything other than Frank being hurt.

Nigel Benn does this yet for half of last year he was trying to get a third fight with Chris Eubank Sr.

Some can't let it go. Lennox Lewis is the only one I can recall that understood when it was time to walk away.

I know but this is just bizarre and frankly you must be worried about Bruno's mental state. He needs help from people who love him. I thought the story could only be a joke when I heard it first.

Briggs, Jones, Toney, Tarver, Bruno, Hopkins, Benn...They're all in the same general age range.

But yes, Bruno sounded not quite right and it's a good thing they won't license him. Now if someone would just think of Roy Jones.

Maybe he wants to fight Charles Martin.
