Comments Thread For: Dereck Chisora-Kubrat Pulev To Clash For Vacant EBU Title

So, looks like AJ and his team turned down Chisora, hopefully in favour of an IBF final eliminator. Either way, it was to be expected as AJ and his team are pretty cautious about taking a big step so soon.

Chisora v Pulev itself is a good fight but not for the styles on offer but because it tells us where Chisora and Pulev are at this stage in their careers. If Delboy wins, he catapults himself back into world title contention, if Pulev wins he confirms his place as a top heavyweight.

The EBU have clearly stated that AJ didn't want to fight Chisora for the title and sources in boxing are claiming the IBF eliminator is in the work for some point this year.

It clearly looks like Chisora declined that fight.

Not what the EBU are saying. BTW, I wasn't trying to create a "fighter A ducked fighter B", I'm just relaying the facts as they have been reported. Here is the exact quote from EBU General Secretary Enza Jacoponi “Unfortunately Joshua did not accept to dispute the EBU title.” ... “So the vacant title will be disputed between Derek Chisora and Kubrat Pulev.”

The title was made vacant by Helenius if I remember correctly.

As for the video that's been posted, Dereck clearly states he would not fight AJ for nothing but with the EBU title on the line, it doesn't seem like Chisora was going to back out.

AJ has chosen a different route and fair play to him, which leads him either to the IBF or Jennings as is being reported currently.

Neither of them wanted the fight, I think. Joshua didn't think he was ready for Chisora, and Chisora didn't want to be cannon fodder for Joshua's career.

I wish Robert Helenius wasn't a sham ass *****, which he is for passing up the rematch with Chisora. Chisora deserves that rematch.

I think Chisora was worried about fighting AJ with nothing on the line and if he lost, it would be for nothing. He seemed ok for the EBU title shot.

And yes, Helenius most definitely is a ***** for not even giving Chisora the rematch.

It's weird though, from what I'm hearing AJ and Jennings is likely, meaning that AJs team feel Jennings is easier than Chisora and more comfortable than the IBF title route, which leads me to hope AJ and co don't take Jennings lightly.

Bit surprised Hearn's side didn't offer more money as it seemed like the Euro title was on Joshua's 2016 checklist. Guess they have other plans, maybe the IBF eliminator.

Chisora-Pulev is a good fight, I think Pulev takes a clear decision, similar to his win over Thompson where he'll deserve credit for getting the deserved W but won't look too good in the process.

Why would anyone pay a sanctioning fee for that? I felt like a wipe paying sanctions for an IBO spinoff regional title. It looks cheaper than my amateur belts and I usually put it away when I have company
