  • Formula 1 is also quite different from PBC. Formula 1 is the pinnacle of racing and has a deep history. It is also a team driven racing league with both corporate sponsored teams, and private sponsored teams. One of the most glamorous events is the Monaco GP, and it is something I would love to attend.

Boxing is an individual sport, so it is hard to push. Unless it is governed and operated like tennis.

If you believe investing in a NFL of boxing is ****** fair enough. If it was too early for this attempt or the attempt wasn't well planned enough or can't pivot now thats an honest criticism that I could see an argument for. But for sure there isn't much money in investing in the status quo of boxing thats hurting the sport & lowing the value of boxing every year.

Dude NONE of the most popular boxers in the world fight on PBC. None of the current top 10 p4p ranked fighters in the world fight on PBC. PBC is like the defunct UFL.

Do you think it's easy to buy primetime slots on the over-the-air networks like NBC, Fox and CBS? Do you think those networks sell 2 hour blocks of time to anybody who had the money to pay it?

Using your logic, any lame could walk into CBS/Fox/NBC headquarters and waive the same amount of money as Haymon did and own 2 hours of Saturday afternoon/Sat night programming on those networks.

Those networks wanted to work with Haymon on this PBC concept.

And that 'access to a lot of other people's money', that's kind of the point. You don't see Top Rank, Golden Boy, or dayum near any other business entity financing in full their own operations, do you? When Golden Boy had AEG behind them, was that a problem for you? Hell, Top Rank apparently can't even put on the Walters/Lomo fight without HBO (or somebody) covering an extra 500K for the Axe Man's purse request.

          Come on, bruh.

Solid point. The info is out there that these deals are more hybrid time buy deals then straight time buys, but its more fun to act like Haymon is just buying time that these networks would much rather be showing repeats of Cops on.

            • If these networks just wanted to work with pbc then they would of paid for it. They are only involved because he agree to pay not just for one 2 hour window but paid 10s of millions each network for 2 years worth of time. They are only involved because pbc is assuming all the risk financially. The networks are paid regardless how bad the ratings get or how negative the revenue PBC events generate. And the only reason you don't see other sports doing this is because most don't have 900 million of somebody else's money to just waste.

              • This weekend's ratings for Haymon.

                SPIKE Fri
                513K for DIRRELL VS. CAPARELLO

                FOX Sat
                1.5m for Ortiz vs Berto

                SHOWTIME Sat
                336K for Jack-Bute.
                342K for DeGale-Medina

FOX finished dead last for Sat prime time ratings and around 800k less viewers then the last FOX card continuing the trend we saw from NBC where EVERY PBC card does worse ratings then the previous. And SPIKE and Showtime combined for around 800k viewers. Yet with terrible ratings like this people think networks are just going to give Haymon a huge TV deal? SMH

The sad part is Haymon has literally gutted Showtime Boxing's viewers. They were neck and neck with HBO pulling close to 1mil viewers per show. They are avg about 300k viewers now and the high for 2016 was only 500K by Wilder who did 1.2m viewers at the start of 2015 on Showtime. They lost more then 50% of their viewers in 1 year and I believe they are actually paying more for purses now then a year and a half ago.

This fight isn't costing too much considering gg and ware combined for 2.5M

PBC = Keith Thurman ($1.4 mill) vs Shawn Porter ($1 mill) has only a combined $2.4 million payout

Big difference in GGG/Wade and Thurman/Porter are sales numbers. The Golovkin fight could actually support itself with ticket & merchandise sales.

Do you know what the live gate was? I think that tickets will be a little more expensive for NY than LA. Let's see what kind of attendance Thurman generates first
