    A Unified Champion Doesn't Have a Chance

A lot of people are for unified champions and I used to be, but really the only solution to the mess is doing away with the extra titles.

How can the champion fight the best when he's hampered down by alphabet organization mandatories, most of whom usually don't deserve a shot anyway?

The unified champion is really damned all the way around. The sport would be way better off with one champion so that a fighter would only have to face opponents from a list of ten contenders.

So when Wlad faced his uninteresting mandatories, remember, he really had no choice. Only doing away with all the belts will solve this. How that happens, I have no idea. Maybe is we all got together to boycott them one at a time and not support their fights. Could start with the WBO and get them out of the way since the WBA is SOMEWHAT trying to clean up their act.

if others in the division are good enough, they'll get the #1 contender spot in one of the orgs and become the mandatory

Mandatory obligations, TV / Promotion wars...It's very hard to do.
That's why personally, i'm rooting for someone who is trying to do it or is close to achieving it.

Without mandatories, alot of great fighters would never get a shot at the title because of the lack of fanbase/popularity excuse

Mandatories are necessary for fighters that are high risk/low reward fighters. They would get ducked forever without a mandatory shot.

well, you just have to establish some unified mandatory challenger rules to get a real #1 challenger.
WBA,WBC,WBO,IBF can appoint one challenger. They fight it out to establish the #1 contender/mandatory.

Some have a chance and arent subject to the rules.

The belt holders aren't even the best fighters in the divisions anymore. You could have a guy ranked 2 with no title and a guy ranked 8 with a paper strap. The best solution to this issue is to stop putting so much emphasis on meaningless title holders and just demand the top 5 fighters in the division to fight each other.

If not for mandatories, champions would just fight the highest money fights.

So for example, Haye would be more likely to get a shot than Luis Ortiz simply because he commands a much larger fanbase.

And how do you determine who those are?

                  It's very confusing.

Oh they are great to achieve it. I just don't see the point in trying anymore. Four champions per division is just too hard. It's unrealistic to expect any champions can unify anymore.
